Well, that was certainly some show put on tonight. Giambi and Pujols going back-and-forth in the semis was incredible, and then the finals. That last swing looked like it was gone when it left the bat. Any thoughts?

My man Carlos let me down....only two.
Why is Bret friggin' Boone in the home run derby? Was everyone else busy?

Seeing Bret Boone wiff was the funniest thing I've ever seen in a Derby. It's also further proof that contrary to all the sportswriters, the fans were right in making Soriano the starter over him. NYAH NYAH.

They really need to revise the rules of this "contest". I really don't care if Anderson hits 10 HR's that barely clear the fence. The only thing I care about is distance. Does anyone remember who won the derby at Fenway in '99? No, but we all remember McGwire's 700-mile blasts over the Green Monster. Give us at least some enjoyment out MLB's non-existent drug testing policy.

Does anybody really care? I had a choice between this and Raw. Guess what was on? Hint: I have an XBox.

Because he's THIRD in the league in Home Runs, and they invite the top four guys. Duh.

Yeah. One "whiff" in a meaningless Home Run Derby offsets Boone's superiority to Soriano in batting average, home runs, RBI, doubles, OBP, slugging percentage, and defensive ability. Soriano should truly be THE starter.

I was very pleased that RAW had Rodney Mack vs. Rosey on when the Derby was ending, thus allowing me to enjoy the end of the Derby without any fear that I was missing something...

Of course I remember that Griffey won.

I thought it was a great contest and maybe it will help to make new stars. But I still think they should've done whatever it took to get Sosa and Thomas there even if they aren't in the All Star game.

Garret Anderson has made Southern California proud with this win. I can't recall the last time a Home Run Derby came from L.A. or Anaheim, so this was awesome to see.

But without Sosa, Bonds, Thomas, or the other big sluggers, I can't help but wonder if GA is really considering this a victory.

EDIT: GA was just named All-Star game MVP. It's been quite a few days for the most underrated man in the game.

Perhaps how he'll learn how to give an interview. Chris Benoit comes off like a Broadway singer next to this guy.

It was a pretty bogus victory as it was. He was outhomered by Giambi in each of the first two rounds and only barely beat Pujols in the finals. He only won because of a tournament without brackets system used in the second round that let him beat up on some NL loser while Giambi had to outhomer Pujols. The tournament for the WCW Heavyweight title was more legit than this.

Yeah so he didn't beat Bonds and Sosa but still these weren't nobodys he was up against. Pujols, Delgado, Edmonds, Giambi, is still some pretty good competition to have beaten.

Also when you mentioned Southern California not having a winner it got me thinking and I couldn't even think of a representative from LA or Anaheim other than Piazza. So I looked up past homerun derby results and the only Southern Californians I saw were Piazza would got a goose egg twice, Mondesi who also got a donut and Glaus who got a measly two last year. Ouch.
