Now that Vince owns ALL the WWE/WWF footage ALL the WCW footage and ALL the ECW footage couldn't he start a classic wrestling network? Do you think there is a market out there for this sort of thing? Or is he going to bury the past so he can reuse and no sell certain angles? It seems like you could at least market a classic wrestling program, but if the ratings were higher than Raw or SD that could get embarrassing.

I suppose the future lies in DVDs. I really wish they'd release the older stuff with Adrian Adonis/Dick Murdoch vs The Bulldogs, some Iron Shiek vs Srgt. Slaughter Boot Camp matches, or something. That or at least play the ECW theme music everyday.

Somewhere on the boards, a Wrestling Channel was mentioned (In Britian I think), but it wouldn't just be classic wrestling. I don't think Vince would start anything like that unless the company was on the upswing, and there is no way that the ratings would get anywhere NEAR SD or RAW.

I think I also read somewhere that Vince was trying to buy the AWA tape library. WWE shouldn't stop there. They should also try to but all of the UWF's footage (unless it's alos included in the WCW library because Crockett bought out Bill Watts' promotion. If that's the case... man...)

Honestly, when WWE's business gets better, Vince shouldn't hesitate. As more fans would be into the products, more fans would be willing to watch older action from promotions that are long-gone. And I for one can't fathom that there wouldn't be an audience for an all-wrestling cable channel. Consider:

WWE has lost over two-thirds of all Monday night wrestling viewers since 2001. If you take a fraction of that number and assume that they're wrestling fans who absolutely refuse to watch WWE, only liked WCW, etc., I'm sure there's a viewership base that's far greater than say, the Golf channel or something. And this wouldn't be bad for advertisers, because the audience they'd be marketing to would still generally be young adult males.

Personally. I would just love to see, one more time, Terry Gordy annihilate Black Bart by slamming a branding iron into his bleeding skull repeatedly, with Jim Ross in an octive that he hasn't hit since 1992, screaming at the top of his lungs, "OH MAH GAWD!!!! BLACK BART IS BATTERED! HE'S BATTERED! HE'S BATTERED!!!!!!" And Gordy was a GOOD GUY.

Gotta love the UWF. (AHEM. Got carried away there...)

'Fraid not. If I recall correctly, Bill Watts' former wife owns the UWF library.

And WWE does own parts of the AWA library (which they bought from Gene Okerlund's son). That's how the AWA match got included on the "In The Vaults" DVD.

Since a "Wrestling" channel isn't remotely cost-effective at this time, and since WWE hasn't gotten around to setting up a "Video On Demand" network on their library, their best bet would be to hit TNN up for another show, maybe to be shown on Saturday afternoons, where they could show classic footage from the libraries they own.

Doesn't ESPN2 have (or at least had) a classic wrestling show? I seem to remember hearing it was on really early Sunday morning or some such, but I've never thought to check it on the rare occasions I'm up early on Sunday for no specific purpose. Either way, ESPN might be another option for a classic wrestling show, presuming Viacom doesn't want it and they're allowed to shop outside of Viacom.

This idea was in discussion right after they bought the WCW library. I seem to remember Linda McMahon discussing it during one of those investor conference calls and saying that it was something they were looking at but didn't think it was economically feasible at the time.

I can't say as I blame them if that is the case, because as much as I personally would enjoy it it makes no sense to start something like that when your business is in a fiscal valley. The start-up costs would be huge. I would be very surprised, though, if they don't have a plan in place that could be launched very quickly as soon as the next boom hits.

If only they had that XFL money back. This seems like the business venture that would just keep on giving. Hell, show infomercials for 8 to 9 hours when viewing is down, everybody else does. Instead of branching out into other media outlets they should have stuck with the bread and butter, wrestling, but what do I know I'm just a two bit message board hack that tends to post with to much beer in me.

ESPN Classic has a "Golden Age of Wrestling" show at 6 AM on Sundays. I could never get up that early.

I know that in Canada, our ESPN Classics channel had AWA and some other stuff from time to time... possibly Stampede as well, I can't remember. I never ordered the channel, so not sure how much AWA is on there anymore.

However, I would pay GOOD MONEY to see the Team Challenge Series episodes they did in an empty studio. Really, I would...
