Serious question time- Do you ever like individual songs done by bands you dislike? I see that you mostly stick to the "anything from (band I dislike) goes right to the bottom of the barrel" way of ranking. Do you like any songs from Good Charlotte or Crazy Town for instance? Perhaps you have an example of liking a single from a band you usually reserve hate for?
I say this because there doesn't seem to be any room for that in your countdown. For example, I can't stand Marilyn Manson, but I thought Dope Show was an excellent song. Conversly, I'll agree that "The Young and The Hopeless" by Good Charlotte is pretty bad.

If Tonz of Fun was still in its "prime" right now, would it be above or below Boys of Summer?

I also don't think "Boys of Summer" is that hot. I'm not much of a fan of this "neo-pop punk" thing, i.e. Good Charlotte, The Starting Line, NFG, or what have you. I will say that sometimes I find myself liking the new 3 Doors Down song, "The Road I'm On" even though I loathe their brand of "Redneck Rock". It's just catchy. I hate myself for it, but I can't help it.
EDIT~Dude, Grandaddy is off the countdown? Weak.

Just...ARGH. YOU'RE A SHITTY BAND YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO BE CHANGING THE LYRICS TO CLASSIC SONGS. And as for the "songs I've liked by bands I've hated," "Box Full Of Sharp Objects" by The Used is the best example of this off the top of my head. "Little Things" by Good Charlotte to a much lesser degree, too. OH and "Movies" by Alien Ant Farm, that's another really good one. And "I Did It" by the Dave Matthews Band. There, that's good enough. So yes, it happens. | KevinKellyisFNHardcore

It's "inescapable", and yes, that lyric change is quite 'tarded. What was the point, other than to try to name drop? "Ooooh, he said 'Black Flag.'" I have no real love for Henley or the Eagles, but I just don't like the song. Bands like The Ataris, The Starting Line, New Found Glory, Good Charlotte, or any band on Drive-Thru Records just strikes me as the newest incarnation of teen pop. People got tired of the "super nice and super cute, hip-hop wannabe" boy bands and they want a music with "an edge". The music, though, is as uninspired as NSync ever was. Same subject matter, but with guitars, sneers, and mesh hats. | raygun

Good to see that others are tiring of these (not quite) punk acts who feel the need to cover 80's songs. "Boys of Summer" was never a good song to begin with (Henley was washed up by 83), and the Ataris' whiny take makes it that much worse. | Grimis

Sometimes I'm amazed by the things I hear....of course I got the Ataris CD solely because of the cover song. It's a damn good cover and one of the rare covers that stays true to the original while putting a band's own imprint on it(even though I agree the Ataris lead singer is pretty whiney).

Is this where I'm supposed to question your musical taste for criticizing the Dead while admitting you purchased an album solely for one of the 5 worst covers I've ever heard? Just wondering.

I never said I was consistent. ...and I'm sure people here can come up with five(or ten, or fifteen) covers worse than that.
I'll start: "Everyday People" Arrested Development "I'll be Missing You(Police ripoff) P.Diddy and the other talentless hacks idolizing dead rappers "Sweet Child of Mine" Sheryl Crow | bash91

I'll admit to being a bit hyperbolic when I called it one of the five worst I've ever heard, but it does make my top 15. Of course, it's nowhere near as bad as Terri Clark's cover of "Poor, Poor, Pitiful Me" (If you haven't heard it, consider yourself blessed beyond measure.) or U2's version of "Helter Skelter."

And just because you mention Black Flag doesn't mean that Henry Rollins wouldn't bitch-slap you for sucking, so don't try to get on his good side Ataris. | drjayphd

Feh. U2 was far worse on their cover of "Beat On the Brat". No. Just... no. You can't cover the Ramones and do it justice, Bono. | Grimis
