Just watched them lose three straight to the hometown team, though two of them were very, very tightly contested.

Sitting 8 games back right now, though, are the Blue Jays still in it? They have to face New York next, which I suppose could be the deciding factor.

Question is, if the Jays move, who do they move and where? Shannon Stewart, and no one else? I can't see them getting rid of Delgado when they look like they are shaping up to be a competitive team very soon.

A few weeks ago, I thought Toronto would be in the race until late August/early September. Now, it looks like the final burial may occur this weekend against the Yankees. For those who doubt this, Way Back Wasdin has been called up to start the series opener against Yankees. Of course, this information could be useful if someone wishes to bet the over on a game, because Way Back against a Yankee team that just lost 2 of 3 to Cleveland should get a workout doing his turning his head over his shoulder after throwing a pitch routine.
As for who could end up on the trading block: Shannon Stewart should be gone, Escobar probably will be available for the right price, and Delgado's contract should be there for the highest bidder.

Seeing as I hate the Blue Jays with the white-hot intensity of a thousand suns, I'm praying the Yankees bury them this coming weekend.

If they do start moving salaries out of Toronto, I wouldn't be surprised if Delgado, Escobar, Stewart, or Cory Lidle were to leave town.

Aw, how could you hate the Jays? They're so friendly.

The Jays are fucking done. Goddamn, they frustrate me so much. They blew TWO games against Boston and tonight's game was just a blowout from start to finish. The Jays bullpen is the worst in the recorded history of major league baseball; my God, they can get nobody out. Aside from Halladay and Escobar, their starting staff is just flat-out wretched.

That being said, all it would take to turn it around would be acquiring maybe 2-3 relievers, which tend to go pretty cheaply. They also need a starter, which the Jays could get for dealing Shannon Stewart.

It's looking grim, but the Jays aren't entirely dead yet. The pulse is weakening, however.

I wouldn't say they're entirely dead - not yet. They have too much talent to shrivel up and die, but they're in a severe cold stretch right now. If by a week or two after the All-Star break they're still in this, then yeah, they're toast. I don't think they're past hope, though.

(And wow... how does someone actually hate the Jays? Worst I've seen is just apathy.)

I hated the Jays in the 92-95 period during the times they were contending with the O's for the AL East. Things really got accelerated after the All-Star Game with the Mussina thing and the "Cito Sucks" shirts popping up around Baltimore.

Then Mussina became a bitch and signed with the Yankees...asshole.

They are definitely still in it, but need to right the ship awfully quick.

They need to pull off a deal for pitching, specifically one decent starter and reliever, using Stewart as the bait.

With all the teams still in the hunt, like the Cubs, Astros, Cardinals, Giants, Dodgers, Rockies, Diamondbacks, etc... someone will be willing to take him.

I think whether or not they are still in the race will be determined after the next 9 games. They have 3 against the Yankees this weekend, and then they play 4 against the Red Sox and 2 against the Yankees on the road right after the All-Star break. That stretch will do a lot to determine how much of a contender they are.

You grow up in Nova Scotia and you have three options for who your team is...the Expos, Red Sox, or Jays. I was the BIGGEST Expos fan as a kid (Tim Wallach RULES!), and hated (and STILL hate) the fact that they get no exposure in this country.

All this talk about the Jays contending was happening at the same time the Expos had a better record, and were only a few games back of Atlanta. Did any sports outlet mention that? Nope.

You want to see an Expos game in Canada? Wait until interleague play so they can play the Jays...

Kelly Gruber blows.

When your former owner irrationally demands DOUBLE the radio and TV fees, it's hard to get any kind of coverage.

EDIT: Today the Jays dealt Shannon Stewart to Minnesota for Bobby Kielty. So, instead of trading a strength for pitching, they get an inferior outfielder. Fuck you too, Riccardi.

Well, there goes Shannon Stewart. And they got Bobby Kielty for him, too. An interesting deal, as they traded for a current major leaguer, as opposed to simply prospects.
