Todd McFarlane bought the Bonds 73rd homer ball. For $450K. (No link yet because it just finished.) From what I heard, the ball would need to go for over $700,000 for both of the people that claimed it to break even. Allow me to point and laugh at them... sure, they had the ball, but they're both taking baths over this.
And Cathy Elkies, the auctioneer? I think I'd like to be her baby-daddy. If I could find a pic, I'd show ya. But her banter during the auction itself was worth the price of admission.  | Promote this thread! |             | Guru Zim

It is sort of strange how the difference in public perception distorted the free-market value of Bonds' #73 as compared to McGwire's #70. | cactuspete

Yeah, the first thought that came to my mind was that "Do they usually do that? If so, I've got to start attending more auctions!" Somehow I doubt she'd be so flirtacious with guys that couldnt afford to drop six-figures for a baseball.
