Yep, those five words can provide chills up any hockey fan's spine. And it's happening tonight. So, as a service, I thought that I'd showcase the OTHER Game 7s in Stanley Cup History, in as much detail as I can find by perusing the internet for 15 minutes. Enjoy!

Best of 7 Format instituted in 1939.

SERIES THAT WENT TO SEVEN (and who won)
1942: Toronto Maple Leafs def. Detroit Red Wings
1945: Toronto Maple Leafs def. Detroit Red Wings
1950: Detroit Red Wings def. New York Rangers
1954: Detroit Red Wings def. Montreal Canadiens
1955: Detroit Red Wings def. Montreal Canadiens
1964: Toronto Maple Leafs def. Detroit Red Wings
1965: Montreal Canadiens def. Chicago Blackhawks
1971: Montreal Canadiens def. Chicago Blackhawks
1987: Edmonton Oilers def. Philadelphia Flyers
1994: New York Rangers def. Vancouver Canucks
2001: Colorado Avalanche def. New Jersey Devils

This is the third game seven not to involve an Original Six team.

Ths was also the last time the road team won Game 7. Mean anything for tonight? Doubtful, but interesting nonetheless.

God, I hate New Jersey. Even more than I hate Texas. And I've been to Texas multiple times. Oh well, hooray for... uh... the 2001 Colorado Avalanche! Yay!

Well, the Devils be champs one more year. Good for them. I was rooting for Anaheim all the way though.

Good call on giving JS Giguere the Connie, though.

Giguere deserved the Conn Smythe, but the Devils fans need to get a clue. Why do you boo this guy who deserved it (it's awarded for the entire playoffs) when you have the Cup right there to cheer for. Cretin fans.

I turned the game off with 10 seconds to go - I couldn't bear to watch the devils actually win the cup......

Congratulations to the Devils. Both teams played real well throughout the playoffs.

By the way, not to defend the Jersey fans, but it should be noted that they're very attached to Martin Brodeur, and they start getting all pissy if someone even suggests that any other goalie might almost be as good of a goalie as he is. Therefore, they felt threatened when Giguerre started getting so much attention during the playoffs. Still, I agree it was a less than classy act on their parts to boo Giguerre.
