Was it really necessary to have two threads about this?

I kid, I kid.

Happy birthday in advance, Zed.

Since the Belmont Stakes is running on your birthday, maybe you should toss out some lucky numbers for Wieners who want to combine their fondness for you with their love of gambling on the ponies.

Well, that's just silly. I guess you could bet the 7-6 exacta (or 6-7 if you're more into American dates) but...geez, there's only seven horses in this race? Is that right? If you don't like those numbers, well, I was born in 1971, I'll be 32, and I was born at 0335, which makes it within the 4th hour of the day. There, somehow I've covered all seven numbers...I can't lose!

Actually, with the scratch of 30-1 shot Best Minister (ridden by Shane Sellers), the Belmont is down to a 6 horse field, with Funny Cide drawing the 4 position and being the morning line even money favorite. With all the (sucker) money that will be placed on Funny Cide by the New York crowd (and won't they be an obnoxious group that day), Funny Cide will probably be bet down to at least 3-5. Of course, if you are looking to get a price out of Funny Cide, then the best idea would be to bet him through another tracks pool, thus getting different (and in all likelihood better) odds than the Belmont Pool (much as betting a Pat Day horse in the Derby, never use the Churchill Pool because he's always bet down at that track). Probably the smartest bet though would be to box Empire Maker with Scrimshaw, thus giving you Bailey on 1 horse, and Stevens on the other being trained by Lukas. Plus, by boxing those 2 in an exacta, it'll be a good price, as Funny Cide will eat up much of the exacta pool. Throw Pat Day's horse Ten Most Wanted into the tri box, and you could really clean up.
Umm, oh yeah, Happy Birthday Z.

Unless, of course, Funny Cide actually, you know, wins. Then, you'd be just ripping up tickets.

But with what the odds are likely to be for Funny Cide, betting on him will be a waste of time. Sure, you'll get your money back along with maybe a dollar and little more. Where's the fun in that? You can do the same thing by handing a friend a tenner, charging him a dollar for the privilege, then making him give you your money back after 5 minutes. Whoooopee!

I'm betting on Tyson. Just to make it interesting.

I had an uncle who had that mentality once. He'd say he won $150 at the track and then I'd ask him how much he bet and he'd say $400. Well, then you lost $250, Unc.

Just because Funny Cide will go off at short odds doesn't mean he's not going to win. I'd rather cash a small ticket than no ticket. And anyway, with only SIX horses in the race, it's not like there will be any real long odds anyway.

For me, I think no bet on this race is the right call. I said for me. Not you. Me. Or as Brew might say - MEMEMEMEMEMEMEMEME.

The Mafia, of course, is behind this whole Funny Cide debacle, proving that they should stick to fixing basketball games. How dumb do you have to be to have a GELDING Tripe Crown Winner! Jesus...

Well what kind of boring bettor are you if you're going for nothing but the Win bet? No, with a 6 horse race, this baby is just crying out for the Superfecta hit. I'm feeling Funny Cide, Dynever, Empire Maker, Scrimshaw, with the Place and Show being interchangeable. Of course I've gotten beaten like a red headed stepchild the last 2 big races, so I don't really know crap ;)

Flea, there's been some great geldings. You can make some money racing too. John Henry was a gelding, but that sumbith raced for like 12 years. So, - it's not like they can go back...
