San Antonio SHOULD win this series, but I think that the NBA Finals mirrors the Stanley Cup finals. By all accounts, the Devils SHOULD beat Anaheim, but the Ducks have been so hot in tearing through the playoffs that they got a lot of credit.

The Nets have torn through the East with similar aplomb, though I don't think anyone would suggest that Milwaukee, Boston and Detroit are quite the same caliber as Phoenix, Los Angeles and Dallas. The Sports Guy made a great point about this series in regards to Tony Parker....

Has there ever been more pressure on a young player? If Parker holds his own against Kidd, the Spurs win the series. If Kidd steamrolls him like he destroyed everyone else this spring -- and the odds seem pretty good -- not only could the Spurs lose the series, but they'll have no choice but to pursue Kidd this summer. So Parker either loses his job or goes to New Jersey in a sign-and-trade ... where he has to replace the same guy who just kicked his rear end. Now that, my friends, is pressure.

So even though the Spurs are the better team on paper, the situation seems right for Kidd to pull off some of his patented 'takeover games.' Duncan doesn't seem to have that same ability on a regular basis....he's had about 1-2 off games in each series so far.

That being said, my prediction is still San Antonio in six.

My gut feeling is that the Nets will win but I've paid very little attention to the west.

Because Gary Grzesk made Jason Kidd his b*tch in the 1994 NCAA tournament, and because Tony Bennett is a former Spur...San Antonio in 6.

A UWGB bias, you say? Damn right.

1994? I don't know about 10 years ago, but in 2003 Jason Kidd has evolved quite a bit - you rarely hear the phrase "made Jason Kidd his bitch" much these days, and I don't think we will in this series.

If there's one thing I saw from the Dallas/San Antonio series is that San Antonio is good - but lacks that fire and character that a team like NJ will have. If they pressure Duncan well, and if Kidd plays half as good as he has during the past 2 years, the Nets are in like Flynn. I'll say Nets in 6ish as well.

Tri-state area bias? Probably. Hehe.

Enough of the Jason Kidd/Tony Parker talk about who's going where. If the Nets got eliminated in the first or second round, then yes, I would see Kidd wanting to come to SA. But the Nets are in the Finals, and no matter what happens, I don't think Kidd is going anywhere. He's a better fit where he is now that in SA.

For that matter, neither is Tony Parker. Though I admit that Kidd is better than Parker at this point, Parker will be a better long-term investment for the Spurs than Kidd. I would much rather see a quality big man alongside Duncan to fill the hole that The Admiral will leaving, namely that other O'Neal guy.

As for my prediction, I don't make predictions on my favorite teams, but hopefully the avatar, the sig, and the background color of my post will be a dead giveaway as to who I'm rooting for. ;)

The Spurs should win in 4 or 5 games. But they haven't exactly been putting teams away consistently. That said, the Nets seem to be doing just enough to win. Can they get away with that for the finals or will they lift? I reckon it'l be 4-2 Spurs.

Kidd stays a Net too.

The Spurs seem really vulnerable. The whole U of A circle is pretty odd too--Jefferson is with the Nets, Kerr with the Spurs, Sean Elliot and Tolbert do commentary, and Luke Walton went there...

I'm the type of Celtics fan that generally only watches Celtics games.

So please forgive me if this is asinine, but have the Spurs always used the Undertaker's old music for the opponent's introductions?

I don't buy it. I don't think Spurs are the better team on paper or on the court. I don't think they are the best team in the league. Sure Duncan is the best player in the league. But Jason Kidd is is not far behind, then you have Jefferson, Kenyon, and Rodney Rogers who are all better than the next Spurs player. Kittles isn't far behind either.

Pretty scary that the Spurs actually held on to a lead, isn't it? Seems like most people talked themselves into believing that the Nets were on a monster tear (nevermind that the winning streak was in the creampuff Eastern Conference) and were going to stick it to a young, vulnerable Spurs team in Game 1. But I guess seeing your team get dissed comes with the territory. I might have to ask Frosty's permission to use that Haterade sig.

Yen, I must question your salivation over signing Jermaine O'Neal and calling him a "quality" big man. At best, in the West at least, he's a power forward. But even at that position, he'd get trounced by much larger, more physical players. IF the Spurs were to sign him, I imagine they would move Duncan to center. But I don't really see that working out too well either. He would find himself in serious foul trouble when he played the teams that really matter (LA and Sactown). And you sure as hell can't put Jermaine on Shaq or Vlade on a consistant basis. But I could be wrong...

Since this is a thread about the Spurs Nets series, I'll give a prediction: Nets in 6.

Yeah, the Spurs played well.

At least Dikembe Mutumbo played more than 5 minutes. But Steve Kerr, didn't even get off the bench.

Not to sound dickish (well, maybe), but aside from wanting the Nets to win for personal reasons, I'd love to see what Swordsman Yen's sig would look like if San Antonio loses. Something like "2002-2003 Western Conference Champions.....and we're not d...Oh, nevermind, we're done"

Hehe.

I imagine if that happens, it would probably go the way of CRZ's countdown of wins for the Kings to the championship. ;)
