I know already, but that was one match. Benoit has been getting decent pops for the most part since then (though its always hard to get an accurate picture from a taped show) but thats all, and I just dont see him as main event calibre.
Rhyno could have been built up. He was/is getting good pops since his return, but he's doing nothing.
And, maybe it's just me, but I think doing Angle/Brock again so soon is a mistake. If they play it right, they could stretch it out into a huge payoff down the road, rather than going for the quick buck right now.
Oh dont get me started on what they've done to Rhyno. The guy came back after zero build up, got huge pops, and then proceeded into the land of jobberdom and unimportant tag matches (since WM anyway).
I'm hoping (praying) that they're gonna hold off with him until having him turn somewhere down the line and become a monster heel but my doubts are growing. I still think he would be the perfect guy to have attacked Edge given their history so maybe their waiting for that before turning him heel.
Regardless though, in spite of my love for Rhyno I doubt if he's capable of carrying a main event program with Brock (who's still pretty green) in the short term.
Same with Cena. I don't think one clean win over Taker would have suddenly had everyone clamouring to see him headlining ppv's. Personally I think its imprortant to give the new guys like Cena more of a gradual build before thrusting them headlong into title fights.
The way I see it its important that they try to gradually build new stars, which they're doing (Cena, Spanky, Matt, O'Haire), while still having the established guys at the top of the card to carry the show.
And if you want pushes devised through a segment to Standing O basis, Hogan and Benoit are right where they should be. | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
