| #1 Posted on 22.5.03 1257.07 Reposted on: 22.5.10 1259.02 | ...but does the world REALLY need an American Idol game?
From 411games:
Codemasters debuted American Idol for the Playstation 2 and PC at E3 this year. To go along with the release, Idol's Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson, and Carmen Rasmussen made appearances at the event. The game is similar to Parappa the Rapper or Britney's Dance Beat, where controller timing is everything. A crosshair appears in the middle of the screen, and you must press the correct button when it is located square in the middle of the crosshair. Push too early or too late and your singer will sing off key, with the more off you are in button pressing, the more off your singer will be. The game wasn't technically playable on the show floor, but a Ryan Seacrest knock off invited certain people to come up and try the game on a stage. Codemasters has released the following information on the game via a fact shett, which is printed below... Game Overview The smash hit reality television show is heading to PS2 and PC. American Idol is a music-based, rhythm-action game that will allow you to create, style and train a contestant through the auditions, various heats and the grand final, just like the show. Keep the rhythm going to join Kelly Clarkson as champion and American Idol. Sing and dance with your hands to match the combination of buttons displayed on screen and your contestant sings a sweet harmony, dancing to the rhythm of the song. Get it wrong and their performance fades and goes out of tune as the judges and, later, the audience grow unsettled. Get it perfect and ?make the song your own? with adlibs to really impress. The track list includes 40 international hits to master, so prepare to get full feedback from the judges whatever your performance is. If your contestant sings the song perfectly you?ll receive a few words of praise from Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson to win a place in the next round. However, if your contestant squeals and howls out of tune then prepare for heartache as Simon delivers one of his famous put-downs before you get booted off the show. Key Features ·Fun and easy to play, American Idol, recreates the Idol experience from, the judges to the stage you perform on. ·Create your own Idol with fully customisable hair, appearance and wardrobe. ·Perform 40 international hits including ?Oops I did it Again?, ?Genie in a Bottle? and, of course ?A Moment Like This?. ·Performances reviewed by the judges, Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson, with more than 60,000 words of encouragement and insults. Game Modes Include oCompete for the title in the faithfully recreated Pop Idol competition. oGo head-to-head in Duet Mode. oGet down and party with your friends in Karaoke Mode. oWatch your Idol perform your favorite tracks in Jukebox Mode. oPerfect your performance in the Practice Mode. American Idol for the Playstation 2 (and PC) will hit stores this winter.

Personally, I think it would be a better idea if they created a karaoke-style game to go with this Xbox Music Mixer thing coming out in the fall. That could have been interesting. This? Well, I've played PaRappa, and American Idol, you're no PaRappa. Promote this thread! | | senor sangre

http://www.us.atari.com/games/survivor_ultimate_pc_family
I think this is an updated version, but I know the original version of the game won the prestigous Worst PC Game of the Year from Gamespot (2001 I believe).
Edit: oops, I assumed senor's link was about American Idol, but that is the actual original game that I was referring to above. As you see, highly rated.

On some of the karaoke machines they do have some rating system and competition mode where you sing against another person.and the scores go up and down...pretty funny especially when you try to attempt to do Celine Dion or videos in a different language. | The Thrill

I'd love to put that into the mix at the karaoke bar I work at. Problem is, it'd probably gong just about everybody that comes up there...and justifiably so. | Alessandro

Sheesh...

I think this XBox Music Maker thing coming out in the fall is supposed to have a similar feature. According to what I've read, it will have the ability to pull the lyrics out of any song on your 'box for Wacky Karaoke Fun. Of course, I'm more excited about the fact that you'll be able to transfer your mp3's over to your 'box as well as the access to the CDDB database that we'll get through XBox Live. | Big Bad

Sit in front of your TV. Watch programs and extended TV ads shilling the "new shows" (read: summer time-fillers between last fall's shows ending and 2003 fall season). Try to keep your lunch down as you're hit over the head repeatedly with newer, dumber, more revolting "reality-based programming." Last one not hurling gets out of cleanup duty.
Recommend 2 divisions of competition: sober and blitzed-outta-yer-gourd.

Kinda like Grand Theft Auto in reverse.
