Well, today's the day. Will she shoot par, make the cut, miss the cut or finish dead last? My prediction is that she'll struggle today with all the pressure, but tomorrow she'll be just good enough to make the cut.

Also, Vijay Singh's a wuss.

Vijay Singh should've kept his mouth shut if he was planning to withdraw. If he wants to run his mouth, that's fine but not if you're going to turn tail before the tournament, regardless of the alleged reason.

I think Annika will make the cut...

I think she will make the cut. She is going to have to make up the strokes she will lose on the par 5's by shooting well on Par 3's and short Par 4's. But I am confident Annika will have no problem doing that.

She'll do okay. She won't win the thing, but I don't think anyone really expects her to. She'll have a decent, if unspectacular, showing.

I noticed that the USA Network is going to basically carry every shot she makes. No pressure, there.

Live hole-by-hole results

It's still early, but she's playing one-under through seven holes, including a par on those notorious par-5's everyone keeps talking about.

If I read correctly, +3 made the cut last year, so at this pace I think she'll make the cut.

On a side note, did anybody see what her odds of winning the thing were? One site, according to ESPN, has her at 201-1.

Does it mean anything? Probably not, but it's pretty interesting...

Technical question for those who golf...the ESPN chart says she started at the 10th hole.

Why would a player start at the 10th hole?

In the first two rounds of pro golf events (with a lot of people), they often start half the field on the second half of the course. It's a lot quicker than having everyone wait to go to the first tee; more people are on the course at the same time, so the whole process takes less time.

Those who start on 10 the first day start on 1 the second, an vice versa.

Due to the high # of golfers playing, most tourneys start groups on #1 and on #10 as a timesaver. The Masters finally went to a #1 & #10 start for the first time in it's history this year.

According to www.pgatour.com - Annika birdied the Par 3 13th hole and is now -1 thru 9 holes. I hope she makes the cut.

Some tournaments even go so far as a "shotgun start" where 18 groups go one each to an assigned hole and the tournament is started by a gunshot. This is more common for club tournaments where they've got around 18 groups and want to get everybody playing ASAP.

ObAnnika: She'll do fine. I don't personally understand the whinging and the moaning and the hey hey; in most other sports, women are precluded from competing with men simply due to the differences in physical capabilities (a situation exacerbated when you're talking about the prime physical specimens that are professional athletes). But golf is more about concentration, strategy, and consistency than about physical capabilities. They need to realize it's shouldn't be, "OMFG I lost to a GIRL," it should be, "Wow, she's THAT good."

Hey- this is totally cool with me. In all things, I say if a woman can and wants to hang, play, fight, work, or anything else with the men, and she CAN do so without a crutch, I say she is welcome to it. I can't see why there is such a fuss about this...

So she ended up at 1 over par. Around what most were predicting, but I were Annika, I'd be pissed. She hit an amazing number of greens and fairways today, and if her putter was going at all, she could've easily been -2 or -3.

No reason for the big fuss, but you can be sure the Bank of America is sure happy they user their Sponser's exemption to get her in...

More press coverage than most major championships...

Well, she finished with a +1 71 score. Pretty damn good, but she is going to have to shoot better tomorrow if she expects to make the cut.

I hope she makes the cut.

The leader of the Colonial right now is Patrick Sheehan, the replacement for Vijay "No Ma'am" Singh.

Annika has written me personally to thank you for your support. (I have no idea why she didn't just write you!)

Not surprising. Most people are....

Annika did fall pretty hard in the second round, but she still showed grace and poise in her disappointing Friday.

The problem is that her rounds are not going to change many minds. Her defenders can point to her first day and her attitude overall. Her detractors can look at her second day and her sponsor's exemption (which is my only problem with her playing in the tourney...she needs to qualify to play in the PGA events like most everyone else).

Overall, this whole deal was a success for golf because of the sheer magnitude and amount of reaction it garnered. Hell, this is the first time in many years that I have watched the first two rounds of any golf tournament. I just feel bad for CBS, who will be broadcasting the final two rounds that 1/4th of the audience will watch now that Annika is out of the tournament.

I hope she enters some more. After a few the hulabaloo should subside, so there won't be the nation-watches-every-shot pressure.

And also, she missed the cut because her putting game was off. She's still proved that she has the game to play with the men, she just had an off day.

It's like Lisa Leslie playing in the NBA, holding her own, but having a bad game solely because she missed her free throws.

If she is going to play more, even on just a semi-regular basis, she does need to qualify. As a one-shot, I think it was OK to take the exemption. But I don't think it would be fair to do the PGA tour on exemptions.

I have my doubts that she will play again. I mean, I think she could hang alright with the guys. But on the other hand, is that good enough for Annika, to merely hang? When she is on the LPGA, she is a champion, a Hall of Famer. I think the best she could ever hope for on the PGA is to be average, with it more likely that she would be below average. I don't think that would be good enough for Annika. Most champions want to compete for #1, not to just make the cut.

I think she did what she wanted to do. I think she knows that she can play with them. She also probably now knows that her game is far from perfect, and she does have things she can work on. And I do think she did shut some people up who thought that she would totally embarass herself out there. I think that's all she wanted to do.
