Well, after being soundly thrashed Monday by the Bronx Bombers, the Red Sox decided to come back with Pedro Martinez. Then Pedro hurt himself playing catch. So, Bruce Chen gets the start against the Yankees and does well, given the circumstances. 4 innings, 3 runs. Then Ramiro Mendoza comes in. His first inning yields 3 runs, but he is convinced that even if Steinbrenner's still paying him, he's wearing a Red Sox shirt, and manages to get through the 6th unscathed. And then it all falls into place. Alan Embree pitches an easy 7th. Mike Timlin pitches a no sweat 8th. And Brandon Lyon pitches a 1-2-3, strike-out-the-side 9th for the Boston Red Sox, triumphant over the Yankees for the first time all year. I will go out on somewhat of a limb and say that the Sox take tomorrow's game over Roger Clemens and then at least 2 out of 3 at Yankee Stadium, including Roger's start.

It was a fun game to watch. If there is one thing this team can do, it is Hit. It sounds like Pedro will not miss alot of time.

Not to throw water on your victory parade, but this is only the second time they played this season. It's not like they lost the first 10 games against the Yanks.

Calvin: Looks like it was just a strain, so he should be okay.

Chen did better than I thought he'd do. He's flamed out in so many places before (Philly, Atlanta, Cincy, Houston) that I thought he'd just be middle relief. But he could be a decent pickup.

Who'd we give up to get Howry, anyway? Probably could use a can of creamed corn more than him... doesn't look like he'll be back anytime soon (GOOD).

I don't care what they do, as long as the continue to use Mr B Lyon as a closer every other win or more.

Why is Pedro so fragile???
Has any Sox pitcher been this injury-prone? Ever?
Has he made it through one season healthy?
Does he need better conditioning in the winter or something?

As a Sox fan, it is sooo frustrating.
I think I would rather have a solid, dependable 10 game winner, than an on-again/off-again maybe he'll start 20 game winner.
There is always so much drama surrounding him, while guys like Tim Wakefield just show up and pitch.

So, instead of Pedro, who can get 18-23 wins in a season, you'd rather have Tom Bolton?

Perhaps one of you sox fans could give me some advice. I need a new third baseball for my fantasy team, and I can't help but notice Bill Mueller and his heavy duty batting average. It looks like he doesn't have too many at-bats. Does he play every day? What about Hillenbrand?

NO Mueller and Hillenbrand are spliting time at 3rd. Hillenbrand would be a better pickup since he is getting time at 1st too. The problem with Shea hits well the first half of the season and then drops off the face of the earth.

...meaning you can't trade him, because most everyone knows that bit. Couldn't move Sanders earlier this season because of that. Damn you, Wiener League, for not being gullible!

Well, looks like Roger got 299. Sorry.

By the way, sure the Sox won the second game, but remember that facing Jeff Weaver on the mound is equal to being spotted an automatic 7 runs.

I don't have much to say about this, except it was great to hear Curt Gowdy call the game last night on ESPN. And, thank frickin' God that Nomar turned things around. That's it for me.

Does anyone else love that they got John Williams to throw out the first pitch last night JUST so they could play the Imperial March for the Evil Empire

Yeah, you know, that would have been REALLY nice to hear. Too bad the shitheads at Cox BLACKED OUT THE ESPN BROADCAST. We had to settle for the Usual Gang of Idiots (tm... whoever) on YES. They have no sense of history at Cox. -_-

The couple of innings that I heard Gowdy were great ... until the normal crew decided to talk over him. Man, that got annoying real fast.

I figured Comcast would blackout Gowdy. I don't watch a lot of Sox games, but I know Gowdy's work and know he is the man.

But instead we get Jerry Remy and Don Orsillo. The Poor Man's Sean McDonough. Ugh.

Let us not insult Jerry Remy by putting him in the same sentence with Don Orsillo. Don Orsillo: The only announcer alive who makes me miss the days of Bob Kurtz. And now, after the events of last summer, I can't even call for the return of Ned Martin to at least have someone who knows baseball as the play by play man for the Red Sox.
And remember Red Sox fans, email fanfeedback@redsox.com in order to demand that Jerry Remy's #2 be retired. Hell, if the Boston Herald can call for Tony Conigliaro's number to be retired every week, my campaign for Remy's number deserves to be publicized as well.
