Now, if only these rediculous lawsuits could just go away or be banned altogether(Dems threaten a filibuster on that one too. All they do these days is filibuster and rip Bush).

Filibustering is the last tool available to a minority party to oppose the will of a majority government. I'm sure those people who voted those Democrats into power are quite happy with their representation on this matter.
(That having been said, the new style of filibustering, wherein a given representative can just walk up to the podium and say "I am filibustering" and then everybody breaks for two hours, that lacks flair. I vote we bring back the old days when people had to stand there and talk continuously to filibuster. That had style.) | Grimis

I agree 100%. This kind of filibustering can hold anything up for an unlimited period of time. The traditional filibuster required the strength of conviction to actually go through with it, along with the strategy of how to through with it, who will help you out, dealing with the political considerations, supplies, etc. A lot more gusto than this lollygagging "we object nyah" crap. | Pool-Boy

The way they do it now puts way too much power in the hands of a minority- they could filabuster ANYTHING, and not have to break a sweat.
That is another reason I boo the current filabuster. If they had Senators up there reading War and Peace aloud, I would grant their views more creedence. That is proactive- and they are WORKING to stop something. The longer they keep it up, the more serious I would take their position, since they clearly are passionate about stopping the vote. Nowadays- they just seem like spoiled brats who won't clean their rooms...
Ug- our whole Congress seems to be filled with a bunch of spoiled brats. That is the one major flaw in the Republic government... the elected representatives start pampering themselves too much, and it becomes impossible for the voters to reign it in. They can elect different people all they want, but the problem is in the rules within the body itself, and no congressman would dream of changing those... | | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
