You know, the double meaning of "Guy TV" would have been better. That way, it's both a person's name, as well as referring to guys.
Maybe if the logo had spikes jutting out of it (or at least the TV part of the logo) it would be a little more butch.
By the way, wasn't TBS sort of aiming for the male demographic after dropping the WCW programming, or was that more just become a free movie channel?
Oh well, I'm just curious to see if Spike Dudley gets any sort of mini-push because he got the whole station named after him. | jwrestle

This I'm going to love to here the voice over guy flub up this and in the middle of the promo "Who the F--- names a cable station this?"
Actually that could be used as a selling point for it except like above they'd have to censor it.

| #6 Posted on 8.5.03 1042.20 Reposted on: 8.5.10 1052.03 | I guess it would have been much to complicated an idea to just use a drawing of a spike as the logo. Ideas like this by the brain surgeons running the network (remember, RAW's ratings will definately be going up now, stated last week by the President of the network, as the ratings fell 10% the first week after he said it) cause me to long for the old TNN. Bring back the Grand Ol' Opry, the Tom Wopat show, and the Dukes of Hazzard. I mean, if your going for the young male demographic, the Dukes of Hazzard is the perfect show: High speed car chases and Catherine Bach in skimpy clothing. | Twoflower

Instead this is looking like some sort of suave, upper middle class business executive's information channel. The sort of channel that carries a briefcase and has prostate concerns. The kind of channel Patrick Bateman would probably watch. It's the polar opposite of the obnoxious 'in your face' sort of attitude everybody was assuming a channel called Spike TV would have. | The Vile1

| #10 Posted on 8.5.03 1320.06 Reposted on: 8.5.10 1322.19 | That's maybe the least manly network logo ever. PAX has a manlier logo. Nickelodeon has a manlier logo, resembling a football or basketball or perhaps manly vomit, depending on the version. Oxygen has an exciting exclamation point, making it a manlier logo. Lifetime has a manlier logo - you could at least kill somebody with the lowercase f, if you had to.
I guess they didn't want to go for the obvious big ol' phallic railroad spike but...somebody's signature? Couldn't it at least be written in blood? I was guessing it would be something along the lines of the PBS logo, with the profile of some guy's head. Only it would have had a shotgun blowing the guy's head open, and the brain and bone bits exploding from the back of his head could have formed the words "Spike TV". The thinking there would have been to brand the network as exploding onto the scene and blowing away the competition, taking no prisoners.
Also, it would be a ninja's head.
Ah well. Now that "The NEW!! TNN" is gone, they'll need to find something ro replace the "TNN: Jumpers Take Their Glasses Off" stopgap. Maybe their edgy corporate slogan to go with the logo could be "Spike TV: Screw the Palmer Method!" | Spiraling_Shape

It took TWO people to come up with that?? Geez. The moemnt I heard the new name, I automatically had a vision of a logo in my mind. It wasn't a railroad spike but it was pretty spikey. Neon green too...ok, maybe that's a bit much. But still, I know simple is sometimes better but with a name like "Spike TV" you have to be over the top, eccentric, have something that just SCREAMS the name. That screams nothing at me right now. It's more of a very light, hoarse, whisper.
So, yeah, I don't really like it. Maybe i'll grow use to it after awhile but I really don't think it'll fit the image they're trying to project.
call me bored, lazy, dumb, a loser, whatever, but I just thru this together in 5 mins. and IMO is leaps and bounds better then that logo: http://www.rubenquevedo.com/uberlou/gfx/spikelogo.jpg my rendition of the Spike TV logo.
(I would tweak the text and the colors more but this is just something thrown together to get across a point)

When you want to have an "all guy" television station, you really shouldn't have a logo that looks like it was designed by an interior decerator. But maybe that's just me.
And don't expect a Spike Dudley push out of this. Sure, if someone with any kind of intelligence was booking, they'd probably have Spike cut promo's saying how RAW was HIS show because it was on HIS channel. "The channel named after the greatest wrestler of all time! SPIKE DUDLEY!!!"

This is hilarious! (If it were deliberately funny, it would be brilliant.)
Vsp, you are dead-on correct about it being the Spiegel Catalog logo!
A couple of other quotes from the same article:
Spike's creative brief for the upfronts and logo hinged on the network's new demographic: aspirational young men, aged 18-35. OK, "aspirational" (m-w.com) is technically a word, but I don't think I'd have gone out of my way to pull it out of my thesaurus. (Y'know, given that the first 2 of 3 definitions refer to gasping & sucking.)
The lifestyle shoot featured men from the network's demographic in a variety of everyday situations, from lounging around the house to barbecuing with friends. I bet these photos look exactly like every 18-35 year old male Wiener lounging & barbecuing. Spf2119 jauntily pointing barbecue tongs at CRZ & Redsoxnation. Hogan's My Dad & Excalibur having a rollicking good laugh, lolling on NetHackSlasher's sofa. Jeb & Dean enthralled with an intense moment during Raw. Perfect! :-)
And the fact that my browser won't load Trollbäck's web page just caps the whole thing off.
