So many weird picks.
So many trades.
I watched the draft with two Pats fans where beside themselves all day.
How let Romanowski on TV? He looks like Waylon Mercy.
Someone wake up Deuce McAllister.
Too little Tony and Mike.
Too much Berman. Not enough Mel (BION).
And for those who don't know, Hoage is going through chemo. That's why he's bald. I had someone make a faux pas about why he was bald and felt bad all day for making fun of him.

This was great, most exciting draft in a long while.
I watched the draft with two Pats fans where beside themselves all day. Why did they trade out of 19 and not get a first rounder this year? I am still baffled by this. Yes, I know the Ravens 1st pick next year might be great, but think about *this year* please.
After that I had to go to a wedding, so I missed the rest of the first round as well as the second and third. After looking at ESPN's 2nd and 3rd round draft reports, the Pats must have made a shit load of trades.
Can't wait to catch the rest of the draft (up until it's time for Backlash anyway) :)

It was great to see him actually sitting there making good points about the mistakes some of the mid-round teams made in the picks. I actually enjoyed most of the ESPN Mag "warroom," especially Chavious. Who the hell realized how great of a TV Star this guy made. He seemed half-stoned the entire show, yet was the one who managed to pop in with all those great points defending the Vikings crappy decisions and horrid time management. Plus, if you stuck around, it had to be one of the most surreal moments in history to see him interview his own coach, Tice. Classic.
The PTI crew didn't get enough face time, and where the hell was Jim Rome? Is it that important to save him for May that you can't dig him out for the most important NFL Day until Fall? They had to keep running that ONE "Rome is Burning" commercial over and over with his "Jets fans aren't happy" comment, which looked especially dumb as this was the only year they WERE happy. Well, as happy as they get.
I say next you, you stick the main four in the "Around the Horn" booths and let Max Kellerman mute Boomer and Denny once in a while. Lord knows I did.
BUT MAN AM I HYPED FOR MADDEN 2004 ALREADY. Looks like the Ray Lewis brainwashing worked on me. (Singing) I'm Charles Rogers. I had sixty-eight catches and thirteen touchdowns!

So my Bears traded down for Mike Haynes and Rex Grossman. I am suitably unimpressed once more, especially when Buffalo had the balls to pull the trigger on McGahee at the very next pick. If I am gambling on a player to turn my franchise around who will do nothing for me next year, I am NOT choosing Grossman over McGahee, even if Willis had his left leg amputated. I always hate being a Miami fan at draft time...6 1/2 hours before your first pick makes for a boring day.

Unimpressed? Why? I am sure that Grossman will turn out every bit as well as the last first round QB pick, the great "All-American" Cade McNown!!!! Another Bears QB star in the making. How do they keep doing it!

| #11 Posted on 28.4.03 1037.14 Reposted on: 28.4.10 1038.37 | This was the first draft I really enjoyed. The fast pace, the trades, the Vikings passing, the journey of Chris Simms. It was awesome. Loved Denny Green and Romo on the mic and even enjoyed Mel. I especially loved the Ray lewis commercials, which were awesome.
However, I had two problems with this years draft, one of which is a recurring problem.
I hated Rosenhaus poking his head into McGahee's screen time. The draft is about the players, no one (outside of the team GM and owners) cares about the agent. I felt that he only cared about himself and making $$ off McGahee. He is a putz.
The second recurring problem I have is Chris Berman. I hate this man so much it hurts. He is a schmuck. I wish they would have let Dan Patrick or the PTI guys lead the draft. I hate his voice and I just KNOW someone is feeding him players on the earpiece because he always seems to "guess" right and then he acts all surprised, yet smug. I can not wait for the day he retires. | brick

| #12 Posted on 28.4.03 1121.35 Reposted on: 28.4.10 1124.30 | OK stupid question, why was ESPN acting surprised that Chris Sims was falling, Mort kept acting like he expected him to be drafted in Round 1. Why? Why was he in the opening promo? Chris Sims had a rough college career, he needs a couple years as a project. He is not a sure thing.
Other thoughts, word is Jacksonville made last minute calls to the Vikings to keep them from trading with Balt. great move, the Vikes are a mess, and with a simple phonecall you make them slip up two years in a row, and you get your guy. McGahee, Buffalo? Don't you guys have more pressing needs. #2 reciever, lineman, TE, what does this do for you? Now your starter is disgruntled, your QB is going to get reamed for another year. After all your great offseason moves this is a step back. New England has a great draft. Plus they traded out of a poor draft this year and got a number 1 next year for it. So they will have two number ones and a shot at an impact player in what could be a better draft. Instead of more bench fodder. How do I pronounce the Raiders #1? Im lost. | flaming mo

| #13 Posted on 28.4.03 1239.39 Reposted on: 28.4.10 1241.57 | I'm very happy with the Chiefs draft this year. LJ is a GREAT insurance policy in case PRIESTOMANIA can't go. 2,000 yard college RB's don't grow on trees.
Kawika Mitchell, the second rounder, is from a small school, South Florida, but his performance against Oklahoma speaks volumes.
Julian Battle, DB, is a project who could be good in a year or two.
Two O-lineman to replace Roaf and Shields eventually, who aren't spring chickens.
DE Jimmy Wilkerson is a steal in the 6th round. He's an underclassmen, so his stock dropped, but it is said he would be a first rounder if he had waited. So he could be a superstar in a few years.
THey also got a DT and S in the 7th, but who knows with 7th rounders.
I'm just glad the Chiefs didn't take Ki-Jana McGahee. And I'm wondering what the hell the Bills were thinking taking him? THey already have a 1,500 yard back in Travis Henry. DUMB.
And the Cardinals were STUPID to pass on Suggs. | evilwaldo

The biggest shock of the first-round for me & the people I watched with was Cleveland taking a center. I have no doubt the kid is good at what he does, but we thought for sure they'd go for some defense, with the injuries they had down the line last year. | Sec19Row53

According to Sal Palantonio (sp?), they didn't really "pass" on the pic.
1) Balt. and Jax. both wanted Leftwich 2) Balt. needed to move ahead of Jax. to get Leftwich 3) in order to do so, they needed to trade w/ Min. 4) Jax. had Min. on the phone in the guise of working out a trade, but really just to keep them tied up in hopes that Min.'s time would expire and/or Min. couldn't work a trade w/ Balt. 5) time ran out, Jax. got Leftwich, and Balt. got screwed 5) Min. still got the guy they wanted, anyway
