I have to wonder why it's taking so long to get these out. I mean, they just put out Futurama Season 1, and no offense to fans of that show, but I wouldn't think there's near the market for that as there is for the next few seasons of the Simpsons. I suppose I shouldn't complain too loud as long as we get them (eventually).

I don't know where I got this, but something in my mind is telling me that the reason for delays in releasing DVD's for TV shows have to do with their syndication deals (ie the TV stations get a guarantee that the episodes of a certain season will not be out on DVD for x amount of time)
Of course, since I can't remember exactly where I got that from, that may very well refer to one particular show, and not shows in general.

The syndie episodes wouldn't have anything to do with the DVD, since it's the same contract from the day it entered second-run until one year after it leaves first-run on Fox and the first syndication cycle ends. We can be assured there was no such DVD clause when the deal was struck back in, oh, '94 or '95, whenever it was.
That is an issue today with some shows, though, even if it isn't expressly written in the contract.
