well with the nba playoffs aproaching i made a bet with my neighbor where we put 5 bucks down on each team rotating picks so that we both had 4 teams from each side giving us 8 teams total....which means 40 dollars to the person who has money on the team winning the championship......heres what i picked and what i got stuck with

east:sixers,pacers,celtics,hornets

west:lakers,kings,jazz,timberwolves

what do you guys think about this......i think im good on the east but i might have made a bad pick on the west considering i picked la and sac because they will probably play in the first round i think i should have taken the mavericks or spurs but then i thought la or sac even if one goes out in the first round the other has a good chance of winning

Actually I don't think LA and Sac will play in the first round even though that's what everyone wants. LA could very easily stay ahead of Utah and Phoenix for the six spot, and Sacramento finishing second would have them not meeting until the second round. Although you still face the same problem since the West Finals will probably Mavs or Spurs vs Lakers or Kings. But he's in the same predecament not having LA or Sac.

If your worried about teams meeting in the first round, you're screwed in the East. Barring collapses or late season surges, 3 through 6 will be Philly, Indiana, Boston, New Orleans, which would mean Philly meeting New Orleans and Indiana meeting Boston in Round 1 (and please God, put the Celtics in a position where they have to get through Indiana/Detroit to get to the Conference Finals instead of Philly/New Jersey).

yeah...i figured my best bet to win in the east was detroit....since i gave up on philly but it sucks if they well yeah your right philly will have to play boston or hornets in the first round...shit oh well i just hope detroit can make it to the finals and then la or sacramento can make it that way i win either way no matter who wins

I think that you are all right in both conferences assuming that Detroit and San Antonio don't plow through the playoffs like they are more than capable of doing. I still don't buy the Mavs which could be my own stupidity talking given their record, and I think realistically the Lakers, the Kings or the Spurs will come out of the west, giving you 2/3 probability of having a winner. The Twolves will probably be soft in the post season like always and Utah couldn't do it in the past eight years when they were younger and the west was weaker, so I don't see how they can make a decent run with Malone, Stockton and Mark Jackson combining for about 300 years of age.

If I was a betting man, I would put my money on Philly or Indiana coming out of the East but Detroit is looking for the respect that they aren't getting now from most people so they scare me. I think TMac's on man show Orlando is a HUGE underdog favorite out east despite the relatively weak roster that he has around him, but that's what makes him the 2002-2003 MVP IMO.

Regardless of playoff matchups, you got two of the best 4 teams in each conference so it's more or less a crapshoot from where I sit.

Ben Wallace is injured and if he's out for part of the playoffs then detroit is out the window....hopefully he'll be able to play if not i have to count on my west picks

Forget about any team in the East winning it all. The conference is just weak in comparison, and the only chance of an East team walking away with the trophy will be if the big four in the West fall and the Eastern Conference champion ends up going against a lower seed like Utah or Minnesota. Not too likely from where I sit.

Maybe this is just from my own bias from being a Spurs fan, but I don't see the Mavs beating the other top teams in the West 4 out of 7. In my mind, that leaves the Spurs as the only threat to you winning the bet. Having the Kings and Lakers in your pool gives you a real good shot of winning it all.

I don't know, people don't give the East a whole lot of credit but Detroit has beaten the Lakers and the Kings in the last month and came close to beating San Antonio. If Ben Wallace was healthy and they play as well as they are capable of, I think Detroit is just as good as Minnesota, Dallas and Sacramento and more than capable of hanging with the Lakers but not the Spurs. I don't think anyone from the West can sweep the team that comes out of the East this year.

Yeah i agree....a sweep definitely won't happen this year. either way im still alright with what i have...im not complaining i just hope wallace will be back....

On another note my favs the sixers pissed me off yesterday...i've been wanting them to gain ground and maybe even take first place.....well last night detroit got beat...the 2nd place team. Then by some prayer the bulls beat New Jersey!!!!....so i was all psyched knowing that the sixers could take second and only be a half game back from first....but what happened philly got beat by new york!!!!!no disrespect to the Knicks but i just wanted to cry.....
