Just wondering after the past few weeks of his promos, and his win over Rikishi last night, do you think Cena is the next Smackdown star to be pushed?

Do you think the WWE will have Cena fight Brock at the next PPV? ...or will Brock destroy him in the main event of some Smackdown?

Cena's character has grown on me as of late, as his promos always come off strong. Although the character can be looked at as goofy, Cena brings credibility to it. It helps that the guy can actually wrestle too.

I just recall a few months ago when it looked like they were going to give him a push (when he beat Jericho at the PPV). I hope the WWE just doesn't f--k it up again.

There's no way Cena will beat Brock for the title... BUT... he'll probably get at least one (and maybe even two) PPV main event(s) with Brock before Benoit finally gets elevated.

I don't see it happening, at least not yet. Hogan is set to sign a 1 year contract extension, meaning he'll be hovering around main event territory. Post Mania historically means 2 things, spring and Taker being given a hard push. Throw in the fact that a Lesnar/Cena PPV title match might set the record for least time in a major fed for the two participants (if anyone can think of anything with less time, I'd appreciate it.), and its doubtful Vince rolls the dice with two young guys during a down period. Its better to save Lesnar/Cena until after they hit bottom than just throw it away now.

Backlash is still a combined show with presumably Rock/Goldberg headlining so there's the draw right there.

Why not put Lesnar/Cena on the show with Cena doing a clean job but giving Lesnar a real run for his money?

Then move Cena back down the card a bit and have him slowly work his way to the top through guys like Benoit, Rhyno, Undertaker, etc until really pulling the trigger on Lesnar/Cena late in the year or next year?

Here's my bold prediction - John Cena will be a WWE Champion before Chris Benoit, Edge or Rob Van Dam.

Since Edge is out for a year, that's not a tough call.

As for the others, probably. Sigh.

And RVD isn't likely to jump to smackdown any time soon for the WWE title so you're pretty safe until Benoit

I think John Cena's really earned himself a run at the top of the card with his excellent work these past few months. I think the Smackdown! crew realizes that it's time to stop playing games and start elevating new guys.

John Cena makes a good main event antagonist for Brock at Backlash while someone like Rhyno gets prepped for his main event run.

TOTAL Cena mark here.

Fort me, he looks like the best thing to come out of the WWE since Kurt Angle. he's a much better prospect than Brock Lesner and it is just a matter of time before he becomes World Champion.

I would beg to differ that he'll become Champion before Benoit, as I do expect Benoit to pick it up over the summer at somepoint.

I actually don't want Cena to work a programme with Brock right now, I'd rather see Brock engaged in a feud with whoever, with Cena racking up wins and taunting Brock that soon it'll be him. A bit like how Steve Austin broke out post LOTR where he won matches, established himself and built his feud with Bret, of course the difference there was Bret wasn't on TV.

Brock V Cena could be real big and I'd like to see the WWE make a big deal out of it.

Count me as another Cena fan, but this all just seems so weird.

Of all people, HE gets the last match on SD before Wrestlemania? Not only that, it's a match against Rikishi, who beat Cena about a thousand times in John's longest feud since starting.

Something else... when Josh interviewed Brock backstage and mentioned Cena's challenge, he said he was only focused on winning the title. The title. He didn't say anything about Kurt. Then as the show moved on, Kurt got his serious promo, but it was clear that the focus was on the Cena-Lesnar issue. Angle got his one cheap shot in to end the show, but he was just interrupting the John/Brock brawl.

I know this is kinda far-fetched, but stick with me:

Plug in Brock as Hunter, Cena as Stephanie, and Kurt as Jericho... and welcome to last year's Raws before Wrestlemania.

Fortunately, there was no pet dog involved.

I like Cena, yes he is in for a big push, but not a real long term push quite yet.

I say this because characters make main events not gimmicks. Make no mistake about it, Cena is hilarious, he is something new and fresh. But no one is going to slap down 40 bucks to see a rapper in a main event. See it as the intermediate road of his career. The same point as where Shawn Michael's was when he was a pseudo rock star, Triple H when he was a French butler, or even The Undertaker where he was a superhuman dead guy (Undertaker never was a true main eventer til after he lost the urn.) So this seems to be the right path, taking into consideration that politics don't come into play.

But the guy is loaded with potential. I might have to dust off the old WCW tapes but Cena reminds me a bit of a young Steve Austin. He isn't the best technician, but is super charismatic and a tremendous athlete. The way he can pick apart his opponents kinda reminds me of that 80's style. Give him a year or two, let the fans adjust to his style and he can be there.

I think that the WWE knows that they have a star in John Cena. If they handle him right, he could be the next big heel.

As far as having a "rapper" in the main event, I don't see why this would be such a huge concern for the WWE.

Hip-hop is very mainstream right now, and I think the WWE realizes the popularity of guys like Eminem and 50 Cent.

I have seen Cena live a few times, and every time he generates the most heel heat of the night. People boo the HELL out of him...but they laugh at his raps cuz they are pretty good disses.

The thing that is good about Cena's character is that he is shows passion and agression -- definetly not a Vanilla Ice type.

Now as a big fan of hip-hop, Cena's rhymes aren't actually that bad. I wonder if he writes them himself.

Yeah that true Lotty, but just because it is mainstream in the real world, don't mean it will get over well in the squared circle. During the heyday of Nirvana and Pearl Jam, they dressed Louie Spicolli up as a grunge rocker, well that lasted a whole month. Cena does his gimmick well, I hate rap, but I still dig his gimmick. He can still keep the thug attitude, I'm just thinking he will need to be more of an everyman before he is on top.

Well, actually the Louie Spicolli "Rad Radford" gimmick was done a during the dieing days of the "grunge" movement (although, Nirvana will always be number one in my book). Plus, the WWF never did anything with the gimmick to make people want to see him. They just put him in a flannel shirt, ripped jeans, gave him a stupid name, and threw him out there. Before ya' knew it, he was teaming with the bodydonnas, a move that really didn't make any sense, other than the fact that all three were heels.

But, back to John Cena. John Cena just has a natural heel charisma. I feel that Cena can be a main-event star, with or without the rapper gimmick. I just think the gimmick is something to get the fans to care about him. Cena will do the rest.

The day I see Chris Benoit get a non-overturned reign as WWE Champion is the day that I'll believe it can happen. I haven't really had much faith that it could take place since shortly after he returned-- despite the fact that he battled Kurt Angle for the WWE Title at the Royal Rumble. It was obvious to me the story they were going to tell-- hail the conquering Brock-- and it made more sense to do it against Angle than against Benoit.

WWE's had Benoit for three years now (hard to believe, isn't it?) We were robbed of the chance to see him as WWF Champion when he got his neck injured just before King of the Ring '01 (which I believe, early on, Benoit was slated to win). After he had to leave, the Benoit/Austin feud left with it, and just when it was being built back up after Benoit's return, Austin left the company.

I suppose Chris Benoit could win the title eventually, but unless we're being worked regarding Angle's injury, Brock Lesnar is winning the title at WrestleMania. And then logically Lesnar would be defending his title against heels for awhile. So someone would have to beat Lesnar before Benoit gets another World Title feud, or either Lesnar or Benoit would have to turn heel.

Regarding John Cena-- I think WWE needs to clue the general public in as to just who the hell he is before putting him in a WWE Title feud. Especially if he's to be taken as a serious threat to Lesnar's title (this is of course, assuming Lesnar wins the belt at WM).
