i would like to see everyones opinion... i was appreciative of seeing the sign of respect that AB showed with that commercial.... i didn't expect the clydesdale to show up in new york at the end or for them to bow.... i was very impressed... reactions?

if every other company did, it would be a boring and somber Super bowl and sorry for the expression, but it would be like beating a dead horse...

i may sound crass, but living here in the dc area, on the news it's Afganastan this, American Taliban that, Homeland security this, memorial that...

at least for me, it's time to move on, and go forward...how many days a week do we have to mourn??? hell, even the halftime show people thought we should only mourn those whose last name started between A-F...

My immediate reaction was "wow, this is so gay gay gay."

I mean, REALLY, I'm watching THE SUPER BOWL. Would it have KILLED them to NOT create Yet Another Tribute To Everything? Do we NEED yet ANOTHER reminder of what happened almost five months ago?

Seriously. Do we want to get back to normal already, or do we just want to let those terrorists win? Pick one. You can't have it both ways.

After the three hours of non-football related Super Bowl pre-game show build up with those sorry-ass Founding Father wannabes and non-dramatic readings of historical documents by Jack Kemp...not to mention those over-the-top shots of Marines and Rangers pointing in the air at computer-generated work stations everytime they wanted to show a graphic or picture of a player, I think they should have gone all out.

Every commercial should have been required to have some maudlin, hamfisted tribute to the American spirit. The hawk stealing the beers should have returned with an American flag at the end and everyone could have saluted. The E-Trade Monkey should have suggested that if the company wasted $2 million again this year, the terrorists have already won. Cedric the Entertainer could have gotten into a wacky situation where he sprayed a terrorist in the face with his beer, then locked him in a portable toilet and sent it falling off a cliff.

I love my country, but sometimes I just want to watch my football and crappy commercials.

I enjoyed that commercial as a one time thing in the Super Bowl done by one company. I would have bene unhappy if all the companies had done something like that, but in that one moment, I was glad to see them do it. There is more than enough time for funny commercials and commercials with that horrible "this bud's for you...and you and you and you" song in them. FWIW, the Super Bowl is as close to an American secular/non-governmental holiday as we have in this country, so someone taking a moment to reflect on the atrocity of 9/11 really sat fine with me.

I think it's self-serving for any company to disguise a commercial as a tribute to 9/11. I remember (off the top of my head) Subway and Disney doing that after it happened, and when I saw that commercial during the Super Bowl, I'm like, "They're still running these?" Instead of saying, "We feel so much for the survivors," they should say what the really mean: "If you ever get depressed thinking about September 11, eat a sub, watch a Disney movie, and drink a lot of beer. That'll help you forget!" Or it's like all the car dealerships saying, "Let's get America back on track and buy some cars!"

Besides, the fact that horses (which are smart, but still animals) would realize the social and political issues regarding the terrorist attack enough to bow towards New York City is a big, big stretch.

CRZ's right. Learn your lesson, and turn the page.

Well it should be noted, that as the horses kind of represent the AB Corporation, so it shows that they were bowing their heads down. Kind of. I think most of you have pretty much addressed the main issues with that commercial, so I don't think I'll get into it. My main beef with the AB corp is that one of the Busch's I believe killed a woman with his car (maybe driving drunk? It's been too long for me to remember the facts correctly anymore...) and then he fled the state in a helicopter I believe. As far as I know he never stood trial for that. Kinda sours me on the whole company.

Not speaking for the entire island of Manhattan or anything, but I would have been much, much, SO MUCH happier seeing the Clydesdales merrily dashing through the snow while they played that "Here comes the King/ Here comes the A-number-one" jingle.

The "powerful show of respect" commercial was smug, self-important and hamfisted and may just displace the Food Network's "let's recover from tragedy together ... over dinner" ads as the most retarded commercial response to the attacks I've seen yet.

Hot damn. Really? He should have come up here to Massachusetts and run for senator. But seriously, is that true, Jag?

As for the commercials... duh. We've really gone overboard with this whole thing. Yes, it was a surprise. Yes, it's very sad, especially to those who are actually affected by it. But for people in Nebraska and Ohio and other places that aren't New York to actually say they feel devastated about this... I dunno. I feel sorry for the WTC victims the same way I feel sorry for those killed by drunk drivers. It's a horrible, senseless thing, but it didn't happen to me, so I'm not going to pretend that my world is ending.

And furthermore, what's up with giving all these people millions of dollars? Jesus H. Christ. People get murdered all the time, and the gov't doesn't give their survivors a million bucks. And they don't sue for more. It's time we grew a collective set and put the kibosh on this thing. The lives of those in the WTC are no more valuable than the lives of any other innocent victim out there.

Nightline tonight talked about payouts to victims - I had to leave for work in the middle of it but the fact that the victims of the embassy bombings got diddly squat (despite the same bin laden perps) was one I hadn't thought of before...and was pretty interesting.

yeah, here in the dc area, families of the people who died at the pentagon and wtc have to fill out a ton of paperwork and 1 of the clauses is that they agree NOT to file any lawsuits relating to the deaths of their loved one(s)...

Oh wow, I had completely forgotten how lame the Food Channel's commercials were.

As for the Clydesdales, it was crass commercialism at its finest - "oh, isn't Anheiser Busch being so caring and compassionate?" NO - they're selling beer, fer chrissakes!

I guess the reason I am not annoyed by the AB commercials is I don't ever drink beer (just hard stuff for me), so I never really look at beer commercials in that light, since I will never likely be consuming their products. To me it's like a little mini-film rather than a commercial because of that.

i dont remember AB airing a commercial or anything like that prior to the ad in the superbowl.... there was nothing wrong with them wanting to take that spot and showing one ad in remembrance to that tragedy... you guys can argue all you want about money and news overload on the subject.... but to me this is still something none of us should forget... and it serves us good to be reminded about this... especially when we have troops fighting in foreign countries....

Yeah, it's true. And if I have the time and patience today, I'll go look up the actual facts that were reported just so I don't look like a complete idiot. Anyway, to take a position:
Yes it is the American Way to try and sell beer on the tragedy of 9-11. And look, we're getting our country back on track, and not letting terrorist actions affect us. I mean if we stopped trying to sell our souls for money, then the terrorists would've won!
