Okay, here's something we were wondering about in my household. U2, and their performance made us all wonder if U2 even cares about Ireland and its troubles anymore? No rendition of Sunday, Bloody Sunday? What's up with that? And on a factual note, I'm wondering when the anniversary of Bloody Sunday is... anyone know?

It's not that U2 doesn't care about Ireland anymore....it's that this was an 'American' event so they organizers could care less about any Irish incident. It was all about 'America'! (And they did it with an Irish Band.)

And I'm among those who think that displaying the anmes was a very chessy and almost classless move. It was like 'we're the friken SuperBowl...we stand for America...only WE can give a tribute to the tragedy.'

Now if this was back in late September ok it would have been fine. It's nice to remember and all, but we can't morun forever there is a time to move on.

Well, considering that they were showing all the names of people killed on Sept. 11, I think "Sunday Bloody Sunday" might not have been the best choice of songs.

I, as quite a big U2 fan, was at the last tour and they played Sunday bloody Sunday and had quite a bit to say about Ireland beforehand. Besides, it's a touchy subject and you can't make inflammatory statements about Northern Ireland anymore. The peace process there is just too delicate to have big bands fuck it up with well meaning political statements before a pop song at the Superbowl.

They were also suppose to play "DESIRE" but Time played a factor, so we never heard it.

They got carried away with "The streets have no name" but for a good reason

THey are still pretty much involved with it though, or with any good cause they can get involved with (amnesty international is one) but don't always yell it from the roof tops anymore.
However, in their shows there are quite some political bits..
Like 'Bullet the blue sky' where they show a NRA bit these days..
During the last tour you saw Nazi symbols during that same song..

I am surprised Bono hasn't been nominated for a NObel prize yet..

Well lets put it this way U2 never came to N.O. for the Elevation our for some reason, which made me very upset, but I'm glad the came for the SB.

I went to the last U2 tour that came to our area which was the POPMART TOUR and is was ok, but from what I hear the Elevation tour just blew that tour(POPMART) away easy.

I probably would have enjoyed ELEVATION more if I hadn't paid $170 for me and my wife to sit in the upper arena at Conseco Fieldhouse and listen to someone next door having an awesome U2 concert.

Never, EVER, go see something there if you have to sit up top.

I wish I had been able to go see them at Rupp Arena, which was closer and in Kentucky, plus I would have been able to HEAR the sound crisply. However, it was Oaks night/Derby Eve and I was not going to stop drinking from the Wing Ding and Oaks so I could drive to Lexington, get back and immediately board the bus for more drinking for Derby. Waaaaaayyyy too dangerous. Some out of towners did tho, and loved it. Derby is a marathon, not a sprint, and you don't stop in the middle of a marathon for a concert.

Great set list, great stage, great band, terrible acoustics. Plus, scalpers were selling tix for $10 outside and a friend of ours who didn't wait in line at Kroger's from six in the morning until 10 to be first in line, walked up and got better seats than we did. Ugh.

Sorry to vent.

I had heard they were going to play Walk On. Oh well, it was a great halftime show nonetheless. I hadn't watched the halftime show in years, if ever. Certainly not since MTV had the first "buttbowl."

They also had names scrolling thru the crowd....I believe several lines of them.

The songs were done well, and done reverently and seemingly with genuine feeling by the band. Nice.

I'm a U2 mark so whatever they do I love, I'm just thinking is there any American band that could pull off anything close that U2 did on Sunday. No American band has the credibility that U2 has

ps is there anywhere online where I can view U2 superbowl performance

I have to say that the Elevation gig I went to was the best concert I have ever been to. It was far more intimate than the Popmart tour (and involved no giant lemons - bonus!). They played a great mix of oldies and stuff off of the new CD too. Just absolutely awesome. I also got to see a great acoustic version of Far away (so close), which is my personal fave, that just blew me away.

It was also poignant as a result of the situation with Bono's Dad, which he openly discussed, then followed with With or Without you. "Emotional" just doesn't describe the feeling here. Just amazing. Absolutely amazing. If you ever get the chance for tix to a U2 gig take it. Fan or no, you won't be disappointed.
