BECAUSE IT'S WRESTLEMANIA!
If Kurt Angle didn't love what he did, he wouldn't do it. He loves the wrestle, whether we watch him or not. WrestleMania is the World Series of wrestling, so who are we to bash the guy for wrestling until then?
As for the "risk of paralysis", I simply point to one person: Droz. He knew the risks the entire time. He wasn't injured until that faithful day. When fate points its' finger, it's your time. And I guess Kurt Angle's gonna go full throttle until he feels it's time or until fate decides that for him. | miknight

The word backstage is that Angle really wanted to work the match, despite the risks, because it may be his final match ever.
Angle will eventually need to have more vertebrae fused, and once more than two are fused, he will be forced to retire. He can put off the surgery for the second vertebrae for many years, but is apparently considering retirement following his upcoming neck surgery.
Angle is fully aware that he may retire following surgery, which is why he wanted his potential final match to be a major bout at WrestleMania rather than a thrown together Smackdown TV match.
If this is true, and Rock retires for good after WM, that might be it for me as a wrestling fan.

Now that Smackdown's over, I can finally open this thread and say... thanks, ASS. It's called A SPOILER. You might want to check up on what that means.
It's gonna take more than Angle and Rock leaving to make me "quit" as a fan, I don't know about you. | count olaf

Absolutely right! There were quite a few asses with spoiler threads out there today. I know it's crazy talk, but if the Zims ever consider another new forum, I vote for a spoiler forum. That way people who don't want their entertainment SPOILED don't have to run into this crap.

Eh well, I can't go back an edit it now - I'm sorry tho - don't like to curse at people in threads (unless it's about something worthwhile).
I don't get so mad when I stumble upon a spoiler WITHIN a thread, but from now on, people should try a little harder not to put the spoiler in the THREAD TITLE. Geez.

From the OTHER Angle/retiring thread...
"in five, six, seven, maybe 10 years if I can last that long, I'll have to have surgery to have two other vertebrae fused, and I won't be able to wrestle anymore"
OK, Angle HIMSELF said this. I'm not gonna worry that this is the end for him. It's a weird situation though, and I'm not sure I agree on it.
Angle's wrestling this match because it "could be" his last. Well the problem with this is, WRESTLING the match INCREASES his chances of having to retire. If he would have dropped the title on Smackdown, he would have a MUCH greater chance at coming back after a year. He could then go on for those next few years and actually wrestling.
It's very ironic that he's fighting this match because it "could be" the end. When he walks the aisle at Mania, he's bringing that reality just a little bit closer.
I hope he knows what he's doing. | commie_050

This is when I hate being a smark. I'm really rather not have "can Kurt Angle avoid getting paralyzed?" be the in-ring story during that match, but it's what going to be on my mind, and I'm guessing most of your minds. | Ringmistress

I MUST be tired today. It took me about 5 minutes to realize that you weren't talking about The Big Show, but that you were talking about Wrestlemania.
