| #1 Posted on 7.3.03 0525.50 Reposted on: 7.3.10 0527.55 | Maybe in light of the Angle situation, the WWF should go back to the tried and true method of drawing PPV buys. Fool us into thinking we're seeing a good show. Sign some celebrities for the show. I would think at this point it would be easy. Who could show up on the show? Some celebrities I think it would be easy for them to get:
David Arquette (and probably Courtney Cox with him)
Shaq ( I don't know the Lakers schedule, but if they weren't playing)
Stephen King (he was mentioned in Foley's book as being at some matches -- if he's any kind of fan, perhaps he would show)
Christopher Walken, Michael Clarke Duncan (been in movies with the Rock, perhaps they would show)
Tenacious D (I don't know why, they just seem like they would fit)
Frankie Muniz (popular show, has Hart/Benoit in the opening credits, so they already have to be paying WWE some money for that right?)
I think what the world really needs to complete WM is the return of Pete Rose to get bashed by Kane. Who didn't love that? Pay the man whatever he wants -- its worth it.
Also, as an added attraction to maybe pop a few more rates -- why not add a Legends match? Didn't WCW do this for a little while. Give a couple of old school WWFers 10 or so minutes on the card. Of course the dream Legends match would be Steamboat/Savage if they could get them for a one time pop (I'm sure they could).
What about Ted Dibiase, King Kong Bundy, Jim Neidhart, The Bushwhackers, Demolition, Big Bossman, Warrior, One Man Gang, Koko B Ware, Tito Santana, Rick Martel, Honky Tonk Man, Jim Duggan, Jimmy Snuka, or theres probably a hundred old WWF stars they could get for one night to pop the crowd once just for nostalgia sake. Hey, it works for Hogan and Michaels, only these guys are in for one match and out anot to overstay their welcome.
I think that added with a few celebrities, throw in a big surprise like a Goldberg run-in or Christian/Edge reunion or the return of a Shamrock/Jarrett/Sable type of person --add this with the already announced matches, it wouldn't matter who took Kurt's place or how bad the matches are, WM would still be a spectacle to behold.
WE could be tricked into thinking we saw something great!!! Wooohooo!!!
Maybe they could give Christian a run the championship!!

I don't know about a legends match. You can probably forget about The Warrior and Ted Dibiase. How about bringing back the old Strike Force feud for a Rick Martel v.s Tito Santana match? I think Martel had to retire, though (neck injury?). | Grimis

Angle or no Angle, the WWE doesn't need help drawing buys for Wrestlemania.
They certainly don't need it from some celebrity guest appearances. They were fun and neat when they added to the "spectical" of the show, but the wrestlers have been fine on their own in this reguard, so why make the WWE shell out the extra cash? | Quezzy

| #8 Posted on 7.3.03 2106.23 Reposted on: 7.3.10 2112.57 | I know they used to use celebrities to get more mainstream attention and approval. And granted for the last few years they hadn't needed that. However, I think they DO need that sort of a boost this year. The ratings are lower than they have been for years, the PPVs are also hurting, house show attendence is way down and they can't even sell out RAW or Smackdown in some places anymore. It's no longer cool to like wrestling. They are on the downswing of their cycle. They need something.
Yes you are going to buy WM because of HHH/Booker, Austin/Rock, Jericho/Michaels but the people they are trying to convince to buy it don't even know who Booker, Jericho, HHH or Michaels are. They dont know the back history between McMahon and Hogan.
If you think Wrestlemania can be sold on those four matches to the common person, I think you are mistaken. If they don't pull something out of their butts, i look for WM to very subpar numbers. | spf

Unless you do something truly unique with a celeb or get one who is so perfectly suited to the event (like Tyson), I can't see anyone forking over $50 to see them.
