| #21 Posted on 6.3.03 2014.38 Reposted on: 6.3.10 2015.49 | I always enjoyed the rotating trio of Mike Tenay, Tony Schiavone, and either Larry Zbyzsko or Bobby Heenan.
Three men at the announce table is NOT too much - and they all brought something different.
Tenay was the guy who knew all the moves, Larry was the old timer who could feel the action and describe what they were doing, Heenan was the guy with an answer for everything, and Tony was the numbskull.
I'd love to see them reunited. | Mild Mannered Madman

You're right. Tazz gets other angles over. Not just his own, like Callis did.
And if people think Lita's bad, they're obviously not listening to the Cat on Velocity. | It's False

The Cat's a lot of things, but a good color man is NOT one of them! They really need to turn him into a mouthpiece. He could easily play Theodore Long's role much better, IMHO.

Oh, I like Long's work...Cat should take over for Rico, instead -- managing 3MW -- and let Rico do some singles work.
On topic -- yes, Stevie Ray can take over for Cat, which makes my above scenario work out SO WELL.

| #25 Posted on 8.3.03 1224.13 Reposted on: 8.3.10 1227.42 | Cat truly is one of the worst color guys I've seen. As bad as Jackie and even Lita were/are, at least it sounds like they were trying even with their lack of talent. Cat just seems to be in a confused daze through out the broadcast. WWE really must think no one cares about Velocity, because if they did they would have removed Cat months ago.
I think the play by play men are pretty good. I'm still a fan of JR on the most part, Cole has improved so much and has really hit great fresh chemistry with Tazz since the roster split, and the kid Josh Matthews is really holding up ship on Velocity all by himself... Coachman is the only play by play guy I don't like.
Color guys are a different story, the only one I like is Tazz, I think he's really good, knows when to be funny and when to put something over as serious. He brings a great mix... now on the other hand, we have Cat which I've stated on how awful I think he is already. Jerry Lawler, I just find him so tired and repetitive. Sure he seem monster over when he comes out, but he hasn't gotten anything over but himself in years. I actually think Lita is okay, and when Lita! is your second best color guy now there's a problem.
There's a lot of good color men around. I like Cyrus a lot, Tazz reminds me a lot of him, knowing when to hit a joke and take it light and also knowing when to hit serious mode. Heyman was very good as color guy, he really focused and got the wrestlers over... I was also a big fan of Raven's work on heat, he was great on it. I remember one week for a couple of segments trying a 4 man booth on Raw (JR/King/ Raven) but it didn't stick.

He has good intensity, actually calls moves by their correct name, tries to put people over and can even play off The Cat. To me he is a cross between Joey Styles and Mike Tenay. Well, he's not really as good as either of those two yet but for someone just starting out he does a damn good job. | Freeway

| #29 Posted on 8.3.03 1435.22 Reposted on: 8.3.10 1436.43 | One of the problems I have is that there are no heels anymore. JR and Cole are like the babyfaces, and then Lawler and Tazz are faces too. Sure Lawler or Tazz might throw in a comment or too in favor for the heels but still cheer for the faces too. It was great back when Heenan, and more recently Heyman always sided with the heel. Hennig, Raven and Mike Sanders all would've been good at this.
One person mentioned Edge's great commentaring work. One person mentioned Kurt...
Hmm..why not make them BOTH do commentary TOGETHER. You've got one face and one heel. Two guys who can be serious or funny. And they even have a long history together so they can have sort of a commentator feud. And then when they are able to wrestle again they can settie it in the ring. | ALL ORIGINAL POSTS IN THIS THREAD ARE NOW AVAILABLE |
