This has been sort of touched on in another thread, but I thought this should have its own thread. Whether or not it lives, well I guess thats up to CRZ.

Assuming Angle can't go for WM, which match do you put on last? Your choices aren't very good.

Let's see you've got

1) Austin-Rock What's this say to your workers. Leave the company for extended periods of time and you will get the main event at WM. Plus, can Austin get in decent enough ringshape in three weeks to put on a match worthy of the last slot at Wrestlemania? Can the Rock for that matter?

2) HHH/Booker I love Booker. I hope he wins the title from HHH. However, I don't think he is big enough for the last slot at WM. HHH is in no condition to wrestle the last match and is he does it will be another stinker like last year.

3) Lesnar/Whoever Well, the main event was made for Lesnar. But who are you going to put there? Benoit? See Booker. Hogan? Been there done that. Taker? Been there done that -- twice. Goldberg? Yeah lets feed his ego some more. Come on in Goldie and your first match will be the main event at WM.

4)Jericho/Michaels While this will probably the best match of the night, it just doesnt have a big time feel to it. well, not big enough for the main event anyways. This has "very important match on the undercard" written all over it. In the same vain as Taker/HHH or Austin/Hart

5) Vince/Hogan Don't think they won't consider this. But while, Vince has a history of delivering in the ring for the most part, Hogan doesn't. Even if it is the main event and they put extra effort into it, how good of a match can these two have?

What would you do? Personally, I have no clue. However, if I were a WWE booker, I wouldn't sleep until I had at least four viable options. I hate to do this at the biggest show of the year, but under the cirsumstances, I would think that a gimmick is in order. Perhaps take all the winners of the evening put them in a battle royal with the last two men standing fighting it out for the WWE title. That way you could get Rock/Austin and a SummerSlam rematch with Rock/Brock. That may be asking a bit much of Rock this soon back though. If anyone other than Angle can pull it off though, it Rocky.

Now that Angle/Lesnar aint going to happen, it seems like it will be Rock/Austin.

As much as I hate Austin/Rock main-eventing three years at 'Mania, it's the only option with Kurt out.

Am I the only one who fears that Vince will put his match with Hogan on last?

I don't think Austin/Rock being last sends a bad message to the workers. Both men are very well respected backstage (even if most may disagree with Austin's actions) and, the fact of the matter is, they're the two big money draws. If they're the two main reasons people are ordering the PPV and paying their salaries, I think the workers in the back are more than happy with it going last.

Well, except maybe HHH, but it could be argued that he stuck around and caused more damage than Rock and Austin did by leaving.

That said, I really hope they make some serious changes to the WM card. I hope Booker T doesn't get lost in the shuffle, but something drastic needs to be done.

Rock/Austin being the last match is like saying "Hey guys, these guys BUILT this company...so, we're givin' them the last spot. Any questions?"

It just makes sense.

Yeah, but it can also be construed as saying:

"These guys BUILT this company... so, we're givin' them the last spot, because we have absolutley no faith in you other guys to be new stars. Benoit, Jericho, Van Dam... Take those **** matches and all that hard work and shove it up your asses. Any questions?"

I just wish they'd start planning for the future rather than grasping on to the past.

Somehow I think the extra cash the workers are going to be earning thanks to the at least short term spike caused by Austin and Rock will ease thier pain from not being in the Main Event.

Hell, it's not like anyone was really getting elevated anyways except for Lesnar.

You don't use the Wrestlemania main event to "Build up the new blood". Hotshotting any of them to the final match would be ridiculous. It should be Austin-v-Rock.

Karma's a bitch huh? They spent all year putting over Hogan, Taker, HHH and Michaels and not making new stars, they fucked themselves.

Yes, they made one new star in Brock. But that's it. Think about this, if they had put over Kane, RVD or even Jericho more they wouldn't be in this situation. NOBODY wants to see HHH/Brock except for HHH and maybe Steph.

But what if RVD had won the title and kept it throughout. Or what if Kane had dominated the title since his fued with HHH (you'd have to assume the feud would not have been about Katie VIck for this to work though). Or what if Jericho finally had gotten a win on HHH and actually had a good run with the title. Then you'd have an interesting and probably pretty good main event match for WM. RAW champion vs. Smackdown Champion.

Jericho vs. LEsnar and Kane vs. Lesnar have never been done. RVD vs. Lesnar was done once and could be used for fuel.

Now that I think about it, (though it really does suck for Kurt and for that I am sorry because he deserves to main event WM more than anyone else) The WWE screwed themselves over so they deserve whatever they get!

I guessing Booker T and Triple H get the main by default, considering they'll have been building it up for 2 weeks more than Brock vs. Taker/Benoit. All the more reason to make Booker look like a Superstar heading in.

I would assume Booker and Trips would get the main event spot, too.

I personally don't think that Booker/HHH was ever considered a main event possibility, and that there was a possibility they might have gone with Rock/Austin as the main even before Angle/Lesnar was scrapped. Now, I think that Rock/Austin is a shoo-in, unless the plan to account for Angle's absence is to hot-shot Rock and Austin into seperate matches, such as Rock/Brock and Austin/Goldberg. The only opponents that would put Lesnar in the main event are Rock, Austin, or Goldberg (or Angle, if he weren't injured), even though it's for the WWE title. Any other opponent would make a midcard match, even Undertaker.

The argument last year was that putting the 'money match' last would devalue the title. I think it was pretty clear that the title match actually suffered more by having to follow Rock/Hogan so its likely they'll put Rock/Austin last.

I think that's one of the fundamental problems with creating two top titles. Which one is more important? If one gets the main event, then what does that say about the other title? The basic concept of wrestling has always been the dramatic portrayal an individual struggling to be the best, but now two individuals hold that distinction and we one night that will establish the hierarchy.

Angle's injury will at least give SD an excuse. However, I can only see either Hogan/McMahon and Austin/Rock as the two possible headliners to send the crowd home happy. The other matches have no real build.

That said, I can only see Hogan/McMahon going last if this really is Hogan's retirement match. Otherwise, it loses all dramatic impact. Through the angles on SD, though, I don't see this as being anywhere near Hogan's last match, but rather the beginning of his latest run.

I hate wrestling.

From an avoid the disaster of Mania IX perspective, putting Hogan/Vince on last would be fine. That way if Hogan wins, he rides off in the sunset a conquering hero after a main event victory. If Hogan were to job earlier in the card though, all bets are off at the end of the night. And yes, I can see Vince putting himself over Hogan and then giving Hogan the belt later in the night.

They'll go with Austin/Rock, I'll bet. At least it'll be consistent...since 1999, every other WrestleMania has had those two in the main. Submitted for your approval:

1999: WrestleMania XV. Face Austin beats corporate champ Rocky for the belt. Vince's hired thug, just-joined-WWF Big Show fails to stop Austin, or register on the charisma radar.

2001: WrestleMania X-7. Austin turns heel in Houston, joins w/ McMahon, wins the belt from Rocky again. Stupid fans, not knowing heel turn when they see it, still cheer their state's boy. Austin has to work his *ss off for the better part of the year to get booed, all the while giving us some of the best heel gold in a loooooong time.

2003: WrestleMania XIX. Here we go again...but this time, no title?

Good thing for us those two always manage to put on an outstandingly entertaining match.
