It's up there with the Austin gone for a year. Maybe worse because its so close to Mania and WWE is in a lot worse shape now then in 1999 when Austin went down.

Any guesses as to how WWE will try to fill the void this creates? This isn't just the loss of a good worker, a good promo artist, or a good skit actor - this is the loss of all three at the same time. It's like having the Four Horsemen hit by a bus in the old NWA, or a safe dropping on Hogan, Flair, and Sting in Bischoff-era WCW.

Yes, I'd say that this is TO DATE, the BIGGEST WORST INJURY EVER. I mean, first Austin, then HHH, then Benoit, then Rhyno, then Edge, then Angle... DAMN.

Actually, if it counts, Droz has the worst injury ever.

It's not career-ending. He'll be back. It's so not the biggest injury of all time, it's just the most recent "big" injury. And it's a shame because people like him.

Wrapping your car around a telephone pole and ending up crippled or dropping from the ceiling and dying...those are "bigger" injuries.

I actually enjoy the interplay between Taz and Michael Cole, but I could dig moving Taz back into a midcard or tag role in the ring for a year while Angle heals up while heeling it up as a play-by-play man. This assumes that Angle has good ad libbing skills and is not just a great actor who follows a script very, very well in his promos. But he probably knows the names of moves, and it's been a while since we've seen a true all-out heel commentator. He has a clear speaking voice.

Tazz can't wrestle anymore either, his neck is screwed up too. He's said he can't take bumps on it nightly.

I'd say this is the most un-timely injury ever. Not that there's ever a good time for an injury (unless you're Kevin Nash) but with WM so close and the build up of the angle with Lesnar... just a really awful break.

Seems like the fates are aligning against the WWE, as if it couldn't ruin itself on its own.

Unless you're Shawn Michaels and that trick knee starts acting up a few weeks before you're supposed to return the favor to Bret Hart at WrestleMania.

Lets not go overboard people. Angle will probably wrestle again. Droz, DDP and Bret Hart (among others) will not. As far as I can remember, the "biggest" injury would have to be Magnum T.A.'s spinal injury that ENDED his promising wrestling career during the 80's. It occurred outside the ring, vehicular accident I believe.

For those to young to remember, I'll try to put it in perspective. Imagine if Brock Lesnar sustained a career ending injury right before his SummerSlam match with the Rock. Magnum was being groomed to be the NWA's top face and Flair's top rival. Instead, his spot went to Sting (good) and Luger (bad).

I think it is safe to call this "biggest injury ever!" I mean, there is more than one way to look at this statement.

I think the way it was intended was Big as in "What this injury will do to the WWE. Wrestlemania's Main Event is up in smoke now, and Smackdown's sitting champion is out of the picture for a year. Months and months of building, god knows how much work and planning are all up in smoke. I think it is safe to say that the WWE has never suffered an injury of this magnitude (severity, importance of the injured party, and the damage done to feud and event being the factors).

Of course it is not nearly the most serious injury that a wrestler has sustained. And it is no insult to them to point out just how much THIS particular injury is going to hurt the E...

I'd probably have this as the Third Biggest Injury Ever:
Number 1 far and away is October 14, 1986 when Magnum T.A. crashed the Porsche and ended his career. Good-bye Starrcade main event. Plus, because of this angle the biggest heel in the company (Nikita Koloff) turns face in order to fight for the honor of the man he battled with for the U.S. Title (see, a secondary title can be meaningful.
Number 2 goes earlier in '86 to Kerry Von Erich for crashing his motorcycle, and losing his foot. 26 year old former NWA Champ goes down within weeks of World Class breaking away from the NWA. This is where the Von Erich curse belief really started to become cemented, and destined World Class for failure.

I was trying to avoid deaths, or else David Von Erich, Gino Hernandez and Pillman would have been up their as well.

No way. If you interpret the question to mean, the injury, death or unavoidable happenstance that caused the most havok to the book at the highest level of the card, and *if* this injury scraps the main event just weeks before WM, then nothing before compares to this. Magnum was set for a big push, but they had plenty of time to plug in a replacement for Starrcade. Austin was a bigger draw than Angle is, but once again, they had plenty of time to change their WM plans. None of those other guys were anywhere near the top of the card, except Kerry, I suppose, but he wasn't heading into a major supercard like WM or Starrcade.

If you mean most serious injury or most tragic, well that's entirely too personal to be worth debating, but *if* Angle/Lesnar is called off, damn! Nothing quite like that has ever happened this close to the biggest show of the year before.

This was not all that devastating roster-wise, but the worst injury they showed constantly on TV was Sid Vicious breaking his leg. Man, that was gruesome.

HHH's quad injury was certainly the most painful. My brother had a torn shoulder muscle a few years ago playing basketball, and he told me that it hurts worse than anything. When you also consider that the quad tore away from the bone like the meat of a roasted chicken, just imagining how that must have felt sends chills to the spine.

Flair kinda' broke his back in 1975. He was back in the ring in four months.

Not bad, considering he was told he'd never wrestle again.

OK, I'll go ahead and say the obvious joke:

Ha! I tore my quad this morning, and look, I'm fine!

Sting's injury from back in 1990 was pretty bad, too. And it helped lead to the appearence of ROBOCOP! So really, that injury also created a lot of pain for wrestling fans.
