Just get ready for a frigid start at the plate in April and May. Then he'll heat up around July to make up for it.
I gotta agree with spf's assesment that in general, this is a pretty good move by the Pale Hose. But who's gonna play in center? I thought Rowand did a pretty good job. | Roy.

I'm a bit sad it didn't work out for him here in Philadelphia, but I'm glad the Phillies didn't get rid of a phenom (Howard) just so Jim could play 1st base for a few more years.
Rowand will probably be a nice option in center for the team. Kenny Lofton and Jason Michaels did pretty well platooning at the position, but I can't see Lofton doing better, as he's a year older, and I thought Michaels bat off of the bench was missed. Scott Podsednik...he played Center in Milwaukee, and only moved to LF because of Rowand, so we don't lose any defense in center, which makes me wonder if this is paving the way for Ross Gload to be a full time starter, or maybe Willie Harris as a speed guy...but we gotta get Konerko done...I'd love a Thome, Konerko, Dye heart of the lineup. | thecubsfan

That's, like, really bad. Konerko in '03 bad. Completely out of line of his previous years and probably due to injuries which ended his season.
At 35, how much of a bounce back can you expect? I don't think he'll be bad as last season, but there's no way he's getting back to peak Cleveland level either. I think it's too soon to chalk this up as a win for either side - the amount of cash matters, and what the White Sox gets out Thome matters a lot.
Thome looked DONE to me last season and Rowand is underrated defensively, but I'm willing to wait for Thome to prove me wrong.
Edit: Sportscenter says the White Sox are getting $22 million. Whoa.

from '06 to '08 is $43 mil. White Sox are paying $21 of that, basically paying Jim Thome $7mil a year for the next three. That's not bad at all.

I concur, I have nothing bad to say about Thome and his time here...he got injured, had the best Phils rookie since Rolen take his spot and became a major question mark. I`m glad Thome's going somewhere he wants to be...he could become the New Big Hurt, or the Sox could be even better this year.
What does happen to Frank Thomas though? Can you picture him on any other team? As a *shudder* Devil Ray DH? | redsoxnation

They have to eat some cash, but they get an excellent defensive outfielder for a mid 30's 1B coming off an injury that has been replaced already. If Thome is healthy, he is a vast improvement over Captain Carl Everett as a DH. If he's not, he takes Frank Thomas' spot on the DL.
As for Frank Thomas as a Devil Ray DH: Tampa has a surplus of young offensive players. They don't need Frank Thomas. They need a lot of pitching.
