I got my Flair DVD from Amazon Thursday, and watching it is like Christmas - lots of presents and no idea which to open first. I've watched almost everything except the actual matches (most of which I've seen) and all I can say is WOW, all those old promos and NWA footage from Mid-Atlantic have been very well cared for, and the choice of materials is genius-level (who wants to bet Flair did the picking?) Anyway, this DVD set is the single greatest wrestling product ever, period. Here's to hoping some glaring omissions (the Wrestlemania 8 Savage feud and angle, the Nitro return in Greenville) show up on another DVD soon.

One other glaring omission is the Starrcade 93 match with Vader. Can a second series be done?

Flair vs. Luger (Pick one...there are plenty)
Flair vs. Windham (Crockett Cup...unclipped please)
Flair vs. Scott Steiner (Clash....i forget which one)
Flair vs. Perfect (Loser Leaves Town)
Flair vs. Savage
Flair vs. Bret (Flair drops belt)
Flair vs. Bret (Souled Out 98)
Flair vs. Benoit (Obscure Thunder...it was great)
Flair vs. Austin (Some Raw in 2002)
Flair vs. Steamboat (WCWSN, 1994)
Flair vs. Hogan (First House Show Meeting)
Flair vs. Sting (Clash 1)
Wargames 1 and 2 (Bash 87)
Dangerous Alliance Wargames (Wrestlewar 92)
Flair vs. Vader (Starrcade 93)
Ric Flair vs. Kevin Von Erich
Flair vs. Funk (Not the "I Quit" one)
Arn Anderson's Retirement
Horsemen Reunion in Greenville
One of the GREAT Flair promos against Russo (there were many)

This was probably left out due to Liz's recent death. I remember most of the feud being based around Ric yelling on tv that Liz slept around, and that he had her first.

I'm sure if (when) they do another DVD about Ric, they'll include it once some time has past.

It's also possible that the Savage match is being saved for a Wrestlemania (or maybe just a 'Best of Wrestlemania') DVD set. Or maybe a 'Best of Savage' DVD (ha!)

Any easter eggs yet?

I'm working strictly off memory here, but I *thought* I read that there's a feature (or maybe an Easter Egg) on the 3rd disc called "An Emotional Night in Greenville" or something like that.

The "Night in Greenville" isn't the WCW one, it's the celebration following his match w/ HHH on Raw.

A note about the Savage thing - it may very well be because of Liz's death, but I've also noticed that the WWE comp DVD's tend to favor matches that the honoree won (Hulk Still Rules, anyone?), so maybe that has something to do with it.

That brings to mind another ? - there is no Wrestlemania box set or "Best of" on the release schedule for anytime soon. If it were ever going to happen, March would be ideal. The fuzzy logo phenomenon may have something to do with it, but so may all the editing out of any reference to the WWF (on the Flair DVD, it is clipped to bypass anytime Flair said "WWF" in an interview - very annoying.) Price and size may also be a factor, as a box set of all Wrestlemanias + extras could cost nearly $200. Then again, they could wait until after Wrestlemania to put all 20 of them out. I'm not holding my breath.

Also, on Easter eggs, there are 6 of them, two on each disc. 5 are old promos from the NWA (good, good stuff) and the sixth is Flair's Titan-tron video before Evolution. They are hidden more creatively on the third disc, so don't read the spoilers and have fun trying to find them.

I thought that wasn't out until tomorrow. Is it just Amazon that gets it early, or might I actually be able to get my hands on one today?

Why would I want to "have fun" trying to find Easter eggs on a DVD? I really don't have hours upon hours to spend trying out various button combos on my DVD remote.

Personally, I'm finding it annoying that Canada doesn't get these DVD in a more timely fashion...seriously, the Trish Stratus DVD doesn't come out here till November 25th!!! We just got the Brock Lesnar disc...about the only good thin is that a lot of these DVDs are 115 bucks a shot...which is a decent price.

No fooling. I have no idea why people who sell a product would take pains to hide the content.

Geez, I thought Easter egg hunting was one of the unique things about DVD's. I find it interesting, but to each his own.

If you must know, the easter eggs on the third disc are located by highlight the WWE symbol on the main menu, and by highlighting one of the beers in Flair's hands under "A Special Night in Greenville." It hardly takes hours upon hours or lots of button pushing.

I think the whole idea behind Easter eggs is that they are non-essential material thrown in as decoration or extra attractions. Of course, there's a whole site, www.dvdeastereggs.com, devoted to finding them.

I digress. If you buy the DVD set, you won't regret it.

After going through the build-up for all the matches on the DVD, let me rate each section:

Disc 1: Possibly the second best disc of wrestling history ever created.

Race: Excellent. Someone has to give Jim Crockett Promotions credit for having 20 plus year old material in excellent condition. Wonderful job done to build to the match. Still weird to see David Crockett happy that Ric Flair won the World Title from Dusty Rhodes in '81. And Gordon Solie must role over in his grave everyday when watching what has become of a business he tried like hell to sell to the public as a sport. ****3/4.

Rhodes: Excellent. Contains the seminal moment of Ric Flair's career, as his attack on Dusty in the cage broke Flair from the tweener category he had been forced to be in for a few years due to territories and then the Koloff feud into a heel up until the Funk feud in '89. Only regret is that footage from TBS a few weeks before the beatdown had Dusty saving Flair, and Flair telling him never to do it again. Would have provided some rationale for Flair's turn. Easter Egg should have been on this match rather than the Windham match, as the interview was from August or early September of '85, thus belonging in this region. ****3/4

Windham: Excellent. Surprised that Windham received such wonderful treatment. Demonstrated yet again that Barry Windham in the '87-'88 time period could have been the second best guy in the business. *****

Disc 2: Best disc ever. Wrestling or otherwise.

Steamboat: One Man Gang for Steamboat? Might be dumbest move in wrestling history. Two 5 star matches plus a 4 star plus tag match in this section. Screw the rules, it gets over 5. *****1/4.

Funk: Another excellent job. Would have liked the addition of Funk's Grill after the garbage bag incident where Terry said don't try this at home to kids. Would much rather see that promo by Funk than hear Good Ol' JR sputter 'How can you train to fall from 20 feet'. *****

Confidential stuff: Have seen it recently, nothing new added.

Disc 3: By far the weakest of the 3 discs.

Rumble: Sean Mooney and the nimrods in the studio boo-ing Flair should have been shot. Flair and Heenan on their game at the same time is great. Flair ripping Jim Herd a new a-hole extremely worthwhile. ****3/4.

Sting: Biggest disappointment by far. Everything else had logical sequencing to it. Sting is just a bunch of shit thrown against a wall. **

Other stuff
Piper/Flair workout: Very good. Bob Caudill is my god. ****1/2

Flair vs. Pete Sanchez: Vince McMahon's tongue should have been forcefully removed in '76 when he said Pete Sanchez was in better condition than the Nature Boy. Even 27 years ago, Vince was a tool. Audio is non-existant first 5 minutes of match. ***.

And, as a special public service announcement to those who haven't bought it yet and would like to find a way to get it with less money going into Vince's and other shareholders pockets (yes, let's screw Flea out of money): FYE stores have it marked at 35.99, but on sale for 26.99. Throw in a 5 dollar mail in rebate if you buy it this week, and you can get the Flair 3 disc 10 1/2 hour DVD for 2/3 the price of a current McMahon crapfest 3 hour PPV.

I'm like a little kid all excited. I rush ordered the DVD so tommorow I'm gonna sit on my ass and watch hour upon hour of Slick Ric.

I've got almost all of the matches on tape but I only saw bits and pieces of the original build-up's back in the day.

I'm glad that justice has been done to 'The Man'. I'm sure this DVD is going to be mighty popular backstage at WWE shows. Maybe some of those Hollywood writers will watch it and see what wrestling can be.

Where are you people buying this DVD? Best Buy has it for $19.99, but its sold out at my 2 local locations. I bought it at a Sam Goody for $24.99 cause I didnt want to wait for Best Buy to get back in stock.

My Best Buys here in town were sold out so I had to settle for paying 26 bucks for it at a Coconuts. It also happened to be the last copy of it, at that. Of course I would have paid more for it, so its no big whoop.

FYE has it for $26.99 with a $5.00 mail-in rebate, so that's where I picked mine up. With a gif card, it's the cheapest DVD I've bought all year!

I'm skipping around, and it's a lot of great fun so far. I'm in the middle of Race/Flair in the cage. Good stuff.

I have only watched disc 1 and the Royal Rumble/92 portion of the DVD so far, and I am amazed at the quality. Actually, I'm more amazed that the Flair/Windham match is so tremendous. Perhaps it was the lively crowd or the general work done, but that is the greatest Flair match I have seen since watching the Royal Rumble performance. It is just incredible and even outshines the Race and Rhodes matches. Big props goes to the DVD makers for putting that match on the DVD.

EASTER EGGS FOUND ! ! ! !

Well while going through this great DVD I found a few "secrets" and wanted to pass them along. Note the great "porno" mustache on Tony Schivone.

Disc 1
Go to chapters and highlight 'Barry Windham' and push RIGHT.
You will see a WCW promo from Flair on the TV Title, Magnam TA, Nikita Koloff, and Buddy Landell.

Disc 2
Go to chapters and highlight 'Day in the life of a Horseman' and push left. You will see a WCW promo from Flair on Jimmy Garvin, Freebirds, and the Boston Celtics?

Go to chapters and highlight 'Main' and push right.
You will see a WCW promo from Flair about Dusty Rhodes.

Disc 3

Highlight 'Play' and push left. You will highlight the WWE logo, click enter and you will be see a promo from Flair on the 'Greatness of the Horseman', Freebirds, and the Road Warriors.

Go to chapters, go to 'Special night in Greenville', then under those selection highlight 'Main' and push right 2 times and you will highlight the beer can in Flairs hand, and click enter. You will see Ric Flair's TitanTron video minus the WOO!)

Go to chapters, go to 'Special night in Greenville' and then highlight 'Final Nitro' and push left 2 times.
You will brought to a video pacakge on where "WOO!" came from along with current WWE stars and crew yelling the famous "WOO!"
(I think this is the best Easter Egg I have ever found on a WWE DVD)
