DC The New 52 "Second Wave" (dcu.blog.dccomics.com) announced in May 2012.

BLACKHAWKS, HAWK AND DOVE, MEN OF WAR, MISTER TERRIFIC, O.M.A.C. and STATIC SHOCK will all end in April, to make room for:

BATMAN INCORPORATED, WORLD'S FINEST, EARTH 2, DIAL H, STATIC SHOCK, and GI COMBAT.

I didn't read any series that are about to bite it, nor am I particularly interested in the concepts replacing them. Batman is the hottest thing DC has right now, so re-instituting Batman Inc. makes sense, but one can't help but feel a fifth monthly book directly starring Batman is overkill.

World's Finest sounds interesting to me only because Kevin Maguire will be back drawing the book and I love his art.

Earth 2 leaves a sour taste in my mouth. Right now, it's apparently just a place to stick the Justice Society since no superheroes existed prior to 5 years ago in the New 52 universe, but what Earth 2 is is a seed for a return to the same bullshit DC habitually mires itself in: multiple Earths, incomprehensible stories of parallel characters. It's the first step in undoing whatever good the "clean slate" of the reboot provided them. The second DC says, "hey, there's another Earth out there", it opens the door to "hey, let's have a Crisis!" down the road.

I've just had a realization. I've been thinking about Dungeons & Dragons lately, with the news that Wizards of the Coast is working on 5th edition. They seeking feedback from people to try to figure out "the essential parts of the D&D experience". But as Penny Arcade noted, there may be no essential parts. Everyone has different things they like. There are people who love first edition's THAC0, there are people who love that wizards can only cast a certain number of spells a day in 3rd edition, there are people who love the WoW inspired feel of 4th edition.

That reminds me of comics as it seems like every change seems to be about restoring some sort of status quo from years ago.
The people in charge of the New 52 obviously liked the idea of superheroes being a new thing, like in the Golden Age. That is in conflict with the people who like the JSA heroes. That stupid thing where Peter Parker was made single again was because Joe Quesada likes single Peter Parker, not married Peter Parker. I'm sure there were people who disagreed. And of course there was that business where Peter Parker died in the Ultimate universe.

Comics, like D&D, have been changed so many times that there is almost nothing that is exactly the same everywhere. A multiverse is a good way to appeal to everyone, but you're right in that they also seem to want to alternate between appealing to everyone (and muddling the waters), and making things easy to be understood (and retconning things that some people like).

The Batman Inc concept is my biggest pet peeve in comics (character redundancy) X1000. Batman is a big seller, so let's put one in EVERY country.

At least they haven't reached Marvel/Wolverine territory yet...

I'm actually kind of interested in Dial H. It's a concept that keeps coming back because it's legitimately just a good idea. Does anybody know anything about the person writing it?

The sixth title is RAVAGERS, of which I'm interested in because I'm liking Scott Lobdell's Superboy and Teen Titans books and this will apparently tie into those, plus it has Ian Churchill art. I will also check out World's Finest (George Perez and Kevin Maguire art), Earth 2 (James Robinson doing Justice Society? Sold!) and I'm intrigued by Dial H.

I was reading Mister Terrific, but am not terribly sorry to see it go as I didn't really like the current take on the character. I gave up on O.M.A.C. after four issues and only tried the first issue of the other four cancelled books. Looking forward to the new titles.

Yeah, but origin stories are always terrible, and they'll have to spend three issues explaining what a "dial" is.

"Robby Reed finds a magic ipad that lets him turn into any hero imaginable."

Surprised they don't just bring Ben 10 in the DCU.

As someone who submitted many "heroes" (all rejected AFAIK) in the 80s for Chris King and Vicki Grant, I am intrigued as to how Dial H will look.

(I wonder if all my submissions are in a filing cabinet somewhere.)

Dialing is what you do when you call someone.

I want them to tie it into some kind-of app store, but that would be hard to do without some infrastructure behind it, as opposed to the prior "magic" dial.

When you pick up a phone, the sound is still called a 'dial' tone.

I'd only read the first issue of Static Shock. I liked it, but the character isn't interesting enough for a solo series. Hawk & Dove was the worst book of the bunch, man that shit was terrible.

I can't believe they're bringing back Howard (fucking) Mackie to write a series. He's a terrible writer.

World's Finest will be the first New 52 book I completely skip. Huntress and Power Girl are two characters I care nothing about. Nothing at all.
