This movie is *exactly* what the trailer makes it look like.

Nobody's going to mistake Cena for Paul Giamatti, but for what they ask him to do (a lot of running), he's fine at it. In fact, he probably could have done more than they asked him to.

As we wrestling fans know, Cena has charisma out the ass, but most of the movie he's doing the whole "stone faced guy out for reveenge". He could have traded quips in an Ahnoldesque fashion, but there was none of that.

It's action movie 101, down to the central casting henchmen and requisite references to a couple of classics.

If you're going to go see this movie, don't expect to be surprised. At all. By any of it.

But it was fine.

I was checking Rotten Tomatoes for the critics' reaction (let's just say I got what I was expecting) and I came across this comment from one Christy Lemire of the Associated Press:

This very thing has been the source of many an argument for my sister and I over the past couple of years - she insists Cena is in fact a Damon doppelganger, while I don't see the resemblance at all. What does everyone else think?

(And for those who say I'm going off-topic: I'll probably end up seeing the film in a week or two. I know for a fact one of my female friends has a Cena obsession that's only surpassed by her Shawn Michaels obsession, and she'll probably end up dragging me along at some point.)

I think that dummy Christy Lemire should pop in The Bourne Identity DVD and see how buff the Damon can be. The dude was freaking cut.

I never made the connection before I read your post, but now I totally see it.

It's funny, for the past three years I've been on the Damon/Cena lookalike bandwagon, but after coming out of THE DEPARTED anI'd have to say that Mark Wahlberg is FAR more Cena-esque.

To me, he resembles Mark Wahlberg a lot more than Matt Damon.

EDIT: OldSchoolHero beat me by eight seconds. It must be a British thing...

It's funny because I've been on the bandwagon for all of them looking exactly alike to me. Must be a Boston thing.

I loved the part with the two random dudes just because it was so out of nowhere and unnecessary. I think everyone can tell from the trailer that Cenar is trying to get his wife back from some evil-baddies, so it won't ruin if I say why didn't they just, ya know, give her back so he'd stop chasing them?

Also, I hate rock candy.

Best movie starring John Cena ever.

Chris: "I believe word of mouth is going to help this movie." IT SHOULD. This movie is a laff riot from start to finish. It made me want to drink Coca-Cola and MGD while reading Men's Health.

When a movie kicks off with John Cena and his giant head taking out an entire compound of al-Qaedas, you should know you are in for a treat. AND YOU ARE! I instantly believed it was destined for Cobra-level awesomeness but a) it had too much of a sense of humor about itself and b) there were no musical montages (I was quite sad about this).

What it does have is:
a) long sequences of John Cena running and jumping over shit
b) Robert Patrick as a poor man's Christopher Walken (no mean feat considering Christopher Walken often fills that role himself)
c) legit hilar product placement
d) vast stretches of dialogue about how John Cena IS The Marine, mostly spoken by John Cena in re: how he IS The Marine
e) Kelly Carlson's makeup remaining fresh and spotless, even after countless beatdowns
f) pointless magic bullet effects to the point of complete retardation
g) a multitude of stuff blowing up real good

Will I see it again? YES! Run don't walk my friend. The first three minutes alone are worth it, esp. the jaw-dropping title sequence. ::SALUTE::
