The song they use for the Osbournes' intro is "Crazy Train", but Ozzy is not singing on that version. I think they use Pat Boone's version.

Actually, it's NOT Pat Boone, because of some copywright issues MTV couldn't get around (Pat Boone recorded a CD of metal covers a few years back, including "Crazy Train". It's both the best and worst album ever made.). They did their best facsimile of the Boone version, but it's just not the same without the back-up singers going "Woo! Woo!" like a train siren.

The Pat Boone CD is called "In A Metal Mood" and is insanely hard to find. The original Ozzy version is on "Blizzard of Ozz" and can also be found on his greatest hits album - "The Ozzman Cometh". I think both versions are on "The Osbourne Family Album", but I'm not 100% certain about that.

It sounds like a lounge singer singing "Crazy Train".

Yeah, I'm sure it isn't Pat Boone, not to mention probably a session lounge singer. Pat Boone didn't work in that genre, if I'm correct.

And should I be ashamed I didn't recognize the theme song as a cover of "Crazy Train"?

Back in my mid-90's days at UW-Green Bay (yes, Jason Kidd, that UWGB), we had In a Metal Mood at our campus radio station. Many times I remember doing a song or two off of there during my shows...at least until it disappeared. *grumble*

I think the most popular track might have been his cover of Judas Priest's "You've Got Another Thing Coming." (Of course, I have a Packer-ized cover version by some jabroni band on there, done for the 1997 season. Blast you, John Elway.)

You can also hear a live version of "Crazy Train" on Tribute, besides the various Zack Wylde and Jake E. Lee era versions floating around.
