Heeey, Peter doesn't wear a tie.

Man, they were just going after everybody tonight, huh? I love this show for the lack of subtlety. This season is turning out to be superb (let's not forget last week's episode with the smug cloud created by Clooney's Oscar acceptance speech.)

The Family Guy flashbacks in South Park are better than the (recent) Family Guy flashbacks in Family Guy.

I feel slightly stupid for not figuring out whether the "to be continued..." was real or not.

Is there any legit heat between McFarlane and Parker/Stone, or are they just using that show since its comparable to their own show.

Add me to the list of people that liked this episode. Once again, you can never trust Cartman to do something altruistic. The trike chase was hysterical (complete with exploding trike!) . Also add me to the list of people who don't know if the to be continued is real. (It has to be -- this week's episode didn't end with Kyle or Stan telling us what we were supposed to learn. Isn't that how most episodes end?)

The highlight for me was the cop car following them; fishtailing at 5 miles an hour the entire time until it flipped and crashed.

Highlight of the episode itself? Definitely the cutting in of actual news footage. "We are super pissed at Family Guy. We declare jihad against Family Guy." Their criticisms of the show were dead on, but you could tell Matt and Trey still appreciate it...but just wish people would stop asking them if they like "Family Guy."

I doubt the "next week's episode" thing is real.

Basically, Cartman's rant on Family Guy is their general feeling about the show. They don't like everyone asking that about them and saying "You guys must like Family Guy." Parker and Stone I guess just don't much care that South Park gets grouped together or compared with Family Guy a lot.

McFarlane himself said that South Park was an influence on the show, in addition to the Simpsons of course.

However, they really nailed it with the use of the random flashbacks with Family Guy on South Park.

Let's see, both shows are animated and often feature irreverant/politicaly incorrect type humor. Yeah, I can't see why people would lump them together.

I could totally sympathize with Cartman's speech. Just because you like the Simpsons, Futurama, or South Park does not mean you are automatically required to like Family Guy. Or vice-versa, for that matter. They're all just different enough that you could love some and loathe the others. And I greatly enjoyed that someone picked on the show for something other than imitating the Simpsons--my only real issue with the show is that the stories are just there to frame the random non-sequitur comedy bits.

What's stupid is that this will start some lame "turf war" where fans of one show feel obligated to oppose the other, making the Scientologists look positively charitable.

Didn't I read somewhere that the South Park guys are siding with The Simpsons in the Simpsons vs Family Guy war? Is that the reason for this episode?

Plus I loved the Comedy Central shot at the end of the episode.

BTW Comedy Central, bring back Too Late With Adam Carolla and Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn.

What "Simpsons vs. Family Guy war" is there? I hadn't heard or read anything about that.

Who are the family guy writers?

Crab people? Muslims?

Oh and yes this will be continued. The last time they used the "To Be Continued" as a joke, fans got super pissed and Matt and Trey had to write a conclusion for it.

I can't wait to see if and/or how Family Guy fires back.

I really enjoyed the episode; it was a very un-South Park episode, from my experience. The jokes weren't a mile a minute, and it was actually very wordy and intelligent. Kudos to Parker and Stone for this awesome and brilliant half hour.

Count me in as one who believes there will be a part two continuation. I would LOVE to see how it all plays out.

They had another two part episode afterwards, no funny business. It was the two where Cartman started an evangelical religious cult.

If: Maybe
How: Likely a dollar short, approximately 365 days late.

If they're going to do an on-air retort, they either have to scramble the animators and voice talent to quickie patch in one of their interchangable jokes, or they'll have to wait until next season, which will likely begin airing late in 2009, if their record is anything to go by.

I just hope that if they do fire a salvo back at South Park, it won't be at the expense of a gag where Malph and Potsie wish they knew how to quit one another.

Comedy central ran promos during The Daily Show and Colbert Report last night, saying tune in this Wednesday for the 2nd part of the Cartoon Wars episode of south Park. So I guess a second part is coming.

I usually don't watch South Park, but had to watch after seeing the promo with Kyle watching an episode off Tivo of Family Guy. The cutaway jokes joke was great, and if they do actually do the part 2, I'll be watching that as well.

For me, the best part of the episode was when they did the long setpiece (the car chase), which is exactly what Family Guy does so many times. (I had actually called them doing a dramatic fight scene, but this will do.)

South Park of course is much better written, but Family Guy just makes me laugh more. Family Guy is a must-watch, can't-miss for me, while South Park is just when I hear that it was awesome and what the plot was (Closet, Chef, Family Guy, etc.)

Do you really think it's better written? I see it as more of an apples 'n' oranges type of thing, as I can't figure out any way to make it look like the two shows are trying to be the same thing.

Another factor is a lot of SP episodes are written solely by Trey* while FG episodes are written by a veritable committee, so it's usually a lot easier to see a "vision" behind the SP episodes - I don't know if that necessarily makes it better or worse, but it's definitely visible.

Definitely. With the way "Family Guy" is formatted, you need a committee just to come up with all of the bits. In a way, it's kind of like a sketch comedy show - you can't just have one or two writers filling up a half-hour or more a week with sketches.

"South Park" tends to get more credit than "Family Guy" because there's a good number of people that see the non-sequitirs, slightly meandering plots, and constant flashbacks as lazy writing...less attention to the overall theme of the show and more on just the bits that will pop up here and there. I personally don't agree, and enjoy both shows, but that's what some would argue and in my opinion they're not always off-base with that criticism. Still, it doesn't make it any less funny to someone such as myself.
