Guess who'll be recapping Smallville again! (

Smallville is back! It'll be weekly. It'll be digital. It just won't die. I couldn't be happier.

Year 11!

And yes, that means I will finally do that recap of the series finale I never did before season 11 launches in April.

(Can I get that Smallville logo back that was taken away from Movies/TV?)

EDIT: Okay, my initial excitement has washed over. Obviously, the new medium means it won't be the same. Much of the enjoyment I derived from Smallville was watching the ridiculously attractive actors try to make sense of the ridiculous writing and plots. Also, I've never really enjoyed comic book versions of movies or TV shows - case in point, Buffy, who's got a bun in the oven in "season 9" ( Also, the weekly release of "chapters" seems like it'll be frustrating, like only getting one act of Smallville every week instead of a full episode. Still, it's better than nothing. Or is it?

If the story is fun and interesting, I'm all for it.
I've always enjoyed the show, even near the end.

But I will definitely miss Erica Durance's awesome version of Lois.
I do wonder if this allows them to expand more on the world.
And they can eventually name that one millionaire that Chloe encountered on her journey.

Ok, I'm better now. Yeah, beside Johnny O's great recapping, we also get the Comics Alliance guys who were hysterical until they started doing the Batman films. That was a bit of train wreck. I just hope they use Erica as their Lois model. God, we are going to get the Ollie/Chloe wedding and baby aren't we?

As for Buffy, kill it. Kill it now, before the fans demand that this be in the movie if they ever do one. Really abortion and black out drunk. You have got to be kidding me.

Yeah, the Buffy comic is kinda stupid. I don't see this being any better.

This has failure written all over it. What's the point? One of the best things about Smallville was the terrible acting by the people playing the characters and I don't see how that can come across in a comic book. It's just not the same thing.

Also, the crappy sfx will be gone in place of drawings where 'anything can happen' which will also take away from the charmingly cheap look of the show.

I'll pass.

I'll teach you how to type "images/tv/smallville.gif" and/or right-click on an image to learn its hyperlink.

(I'll stick it in the icons batch for this forum, I guess - grumble)

The Buffy Season 8 comic was great until about the halfway point and then it just completely jumped off a cliff and burst into nonsensical flames. Season 9's decent and I'm really enjoying Angel & Faith, but I see the point people are making.

Buffy is an example of a comic based on a dead TV show that doesn't necessarily work, mostly because Joss Whedon without boundaries is a frightening beast indeed. But if I may offer (and I admit it's a huge stretch) an example where it does work? Darkwing Duck and DuckTales were dead for nearly 20 years, but the comics were brilliantly written and were some of my favorite weeklies before the Marvel acquisition killed them dead.

My point is that a Smallville comic CAN work if it's done right. It won't have the same feel as the TV show, but that's the trade-off you have to accept with the new medium. Enjoy it, John, and bring back those recaps!

Of course a Smallville comic can work, it's been running for almost 75 years in Action comics.
