One of the things that stand out to me as indicative of the gap between RAW and Smackdown (just not recently) is the way that the A shows and B shows are integrated. HEAT and VELOCITY are the stepchildren to their main shows, but while SMACKDOWN has been a loving, supportive patriarch, RAW has a history of being an alcoholic, wifebeater-wearing, big lug who locks the kids in the closet when they sass him. This has led to a ghetto-ization of HEAT, while VELOCITY has played an important role in providing quality wrestling matches (even featuring indy workers who job) and the foundation of storylines and gimmick changes. Wrestling on VELOCITY isn't a demotion, because nearly everyone does it. They often advertise VELOCITY main events on SMACKDOWN. And so, wrestlers flow seamlessly between the A and B shows.

But on RAW, there's a Line of Demarcation, and when Guys from Heat venture onto RAW, they job. When Guys from Heat wrestle other Guys from Heat, the fans are overcome by...apathy. We are conditioned to believe that Guys from Heat don't matter, which of course leads to them truly becoming irrelevant. That, then, needs to change

How can the glass ceiling between RAW and HEAT be shattered? Goldberg matches? Steve Austin guest commentary? Title changes? What do you guys think?

My biggest issue with the B-shows is all the goddamn recaps. seriously, the only people who are going to watch a WWE B-show are real wrestling fans. Casual fans will tune in to Raw to see what's going on, not Heat. I think it's fair to assume that almost everybody who watches Velocity and Heat has seen the preceding A-show. Therefore, the recaps are boring and useless to most viewers.

Personally, I only tune in for the main event of either show, because I can't stand watching the same crappy MacMahon segment that I saw on Smackdown earlier in the week. If they would use this wasted time to build lower-card feuds or maybe have an extra match, I would be all over watching them.

As it is, the WWE pisses off their hardcore fans by subjecting them to last week's segments again.

However, to address your point, I agree that Velocity is a much better show. There tend to be more talented lower-card wrestlers in the Smackdown locker room, due to the Cruiserweight division, I would imagine. Also, you usually have a solid upper-midcard main event, whereas Heat tends to have less star-power.

I think they need to stop half-assing it and make Velocity and Heat into real wrestling shows instead of recaps spliced in between matches. I think that would drum up the most interest in the B-shows. They would still be made up of the lower card, but there could be Heat- and Velocity-exclusive feuds with people that don't get any play on the big shows. Something like an IC/US Title change would spark a little interest in people, and they might stick around and watch if they aren't watching the same fucking Albert match they saw earlier in the week.

I just keep on forgeting that these B shows are on. I want to watch confidential, or velocity, and heat, but i just carelessly forget. Heat though is a show where it looks like these people will always be held down, and well, velocity, at least midcarders to big names make the show, whereas, no one is really on heat.

Velocity gives me what I desire most : wrestling.
It also gives me Ultimo Dragon, and I don't care if his English is bad Ultimo Dragon is a GOD. I also get to see Sean O'Haare looking all spooky as he searches his opponent for weaknesses. And Shannon Moore, who I always believed in. As annoying as the APA is, they do have fun, and how many wrestlers are just having fun these days?
Well, if you count Josh and Tazz. I swear those two are getting high before the show.

Maybe it's because Velocity is considered too unimportant to prevent people from having fun, or having clean endings.

Well one thing that Heat has going for it is that they have feuds. Maybe Velocity does too actually, I don't really watch it every week. But I know Stevie and Val are feuding and I know Raven feuded with a couple of people on Heat. And Raven and Stevie have both been great as the number one guy on Heat.

by a 2nd vcr (they sell them for $45-60 at kmart.) program it and watch these shows on sunday. then you can ffwd thru comercials and recaps and it takes about 40 minutes to watch confidential(none at all if it's arepeat) and 20 minutes to watch velocity. do the same for heat.

Velocity is better for 2 reasons. at least one match will be good and one decent, with the other one or two at least featuring a "superstar" ( and usually they have been longer than SD matches). the other is that Josh and Tazz are calling things.
Heat suffers due to lack of depth of roster but at least we see Stevie and Victoria on an almost regular basis and for a while there were good women's matches too. alothough lately they've been lacking in that dept.

jake is right about the recaps. hell, there are syndicated shows already that are ALL recaps (dealing only with the going's on of A shows)! the funny thing is that in SoCal, they're on DURING velocity/confidential. go figure. those shows need a deal where they are contractaully obligated to run on Sunday afternoon or removed from syndication and put on Spike or UPN in a regular time slot. Dump the recaps and add more matches featuring A showers and Title matches. and for god sakes, actually promo the B shows on the A shows. Infact, they shouldn't be B shows at all. Monday Night Football is not considered a B show to Sunday (although maybe thursday is.) It's been said before but Heat needs to move to Sat night at 10 followed by velocity at 11, move Conf to sunday@7. I also think that it would make more sense to tape Heat and Velocity at seperate shows (like the friday house show) than BEFORE the A shows to be a little more consistent and not need the announcers to studio overdub.
OK i'm done
