I pieced this together from the world cup site a while ago...

Germany
vs.------------
Paraguay
------------
Mexico
vs.------------
United States
------------
Spain
vs.------------
Ireland
------------
South Korea
vs.------------
Italy
------------
Denmark
vs.------------
England
------------
Brazil
vs.------------
Belgium
------------
Sweden
vs.------------
Senegal
------------
Japan
vs.------------
Turkey

My current favourite to go all the way is Germany, with Brazil a close second. Mexico could be a dark horse, though.

I predicted nine out of sixteen teams, which isn't too bad considering France got the boot out of nowhere. And Argentina. And Portugal. Jeez this is an entertaining Cup.

Germany v. Paraguay -- the methodical Deutsch attack dismantles the South Americans.

Denmark v. England -- England played brutal, boring, defensive football for all three games in the opening round. Two whole goals scored ... one off a free kick, the other a penalty kick. Ugh. Denmark in an upset.

Sweden v. Senegal -- the clock just struck midnight, Cinderella. Sweden advances.

Spain v. Ireland -- ooooohhhhhhh yeah that's the stuff. Talented Spain takes on an Irish side that busts its ass for 90 plus minutes a game. This should be the match of the round ... I would love to see Ireland do it, but Spain will be too much for them.

Mexico v. USA -- Mexico put on an absolute clinic against Italy. Unless they get overconfident and overlook the Americans, Mexico in a walk.

Brazil v. Belgium -- Brazil looked amazing on attack and very weak on defense in the opening round. Too bad Belgium can't score goals. Bye bye Belgium.

Japan v. Turkey -- the home side continues the run. Japan over a mediocre Turkish side that snuck into the second round.

South Korea v. Italy -- Italy was outplayed and outclassed by Mexico. They didn't look very inspired in any of their games. But Italy always starts slow in the Cup ... Italia disposes of the hosts and starts to build momentum.

PS: I told you all to look for Ulyses de la Cruz on Ecuador's right side. I told you. And he ruled and he dominated and he set up both of Equador's goals and he had two great games and only one game against Mexico where he was invisible and he should get a transfer from the Scottish league to Spain or Italy STAT!

I can't see anyone beating Brazil. These guys look like the soccer equivalent of the Lakers; scoring at will. Brazil over Italy in the final.

Ha! Well that goes to show you! We only did that for half the match this time !

Seriously, considering it's a game of two halves and all, why can't the English players manage to carry on any momentum we have into any given second half of any match ever? Man, I have a feeling 1966 is all I'll have my grandkids to tell about too at this rate . Still, a win is a win so bring on Brazil or Belgium!

PS Big Bad, Brazil have an atrocious defence, it's not the foregone conclusion everyone is saying it will be (Costa Rica got two past them fer cryin' out loud!), all you need is some team with a tighter defence and a decent striker and it's a different game all together so Belgium might just make it through yet...

I sez:

Denmark v. England -- England played brutal, boring, defensive football for all three games in the opening round. Two whole goals scored ... one off a free kick, the other a penalty kick. Ugh. Denmark in an upset.

Ha ha ... man how do these typos occur? I of course meant to say

Denmark v. England -- England has played marvellous defensive football for all three games in the opening round. They have scored when needed ... even if neither was in open play. Yum. England wins easy over a nervous and outclassed Danish side.

I'll have to be more careful when typing out my predictions in the future.

Well, while we're predicting...

(You'll have to take it on faith that I predicted Germany (duh) and England already...)

Quarter Finals:

Germany def. Mexico
Spain def. Italy
Brazil def. England (after much thought)
Japan def. Senegal

Semi Finals:

Germany def. Spain
Brazil def. Japan

Finals:

Germany def. Brazil

Germany: The real deal. Enough said.
Mexico: The States had a good run yes, but i think Mexico is just the better team.
Ireland: They may have less skill, less talent, but they have heart. They PLAY the WHOLE game. The effort alone pretty much gives them an extra man. I expect'm to own.
South Korea: Italy scraped in. Barely. And in their othe rgame,s they didn't have to face something that many are scared of, 'The Sea of Red'. The home teams move on.
England: They're rolling along nicely, I see them continuing this.
Brazil: They'll lose eventually. Belgium just doesn't ave the tools to exploit Brazil's weaknesses.
Sweden: The miracle ends here.
Japan: Don't know. Just gussing here.

I like:

Brazil
England
Japan
Korea

Since Japan & Korea aren't amazing, but sentimentally they're hopefuls, they're out of the running...which leaves the World Cup title to whoever wins the inevitable England/Brazil quarterfinal match.
