I haven't seen Smackdown in ages and hadn't caught Mysterio at all, but was that canned heat I heard for Rey Rey? It sure sounded like it. I know he's an Internet darling and all, but is it possible the live crowds just aren't into him? Has anybody seen him live? What kind of reception does he get? It's somewhat surprising if that pop was fake, because even though I wouldn't necessarily expect the roof to come off the building with Rey's entrance, they tend not to haul out the sweetening unless there's a very serious, Mark Henryish problem.
On another note, man, Angle and Mysterio are damned good. And I am NOT a fan of lucha, but it really looks like Rey has toned it down to a halfway realistic style. I mean, I always knew these guys could go, but it really hit me when I saw the finish to that match -- obviously, it was predetermined, as all finishes are, but they somehow made it look completely spontaneous. Seems like the whole point, but it's actually a rare commodity. Now that's pro wrestling.

I almost never post here, but I'm going to simply to say that I was there live on Tuesday and YES, HE WAS OVER. He got an entrance pop, his highspots got pops, his counters got pops, the West Coast Pop got... well, you get the picture. Not understanding how people could cheer for him is like not understanding how people could cheer for RVD.

I was also at the show and can verify that Rey's heat was legit. The match itself really got the crowd going and it just goes to show what happens when you have a good story to tell with two guys who have established characters and talent to back it up.
Angle was great at playing the heel and slowing things down while Rey, when he was on offense basically the whole time, never stopped being impressive with his onslaught.

Apparently WWE was so floored by the amazing pops Rey Jr was getting for dark matches before his debut that they decided to make all of those "coming soon" packages and push him as a huge star. He gets huge reactions on PPV's too which are of course live with crowd noise not "canned". Rey's got the coolest entrance in wrestling too. His match with Angle was awesome but I too found the ending to be a bit anticlimactic, I woud have rather seen a Benoit involved finish to keep both guys strong but a small detail.

I have such bad luck. I don't get UPN so I still haven't seen Rey on TV since he came back. I bought the last PPV but Dish Network screwed up and the damn show didn't come on until after the first match was over so I missed him AGAIN.
He was one of my all time favorites in WCW. I love how Dusty Rhodes always called him Mysterious instead of Mysterio.
