Given that there was a high-drama Monday Night Football game and a high-stakes MLB playoff game on, I can't blame anyone for picking those over...whatever this show was supposed to be.

So we now officially have our top heels: Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. No, it isn't 1999. Why yes, it is 2013, why do you ask? On the upside, they seem to be focused on Daniel Bryan again, so at the very least, this angle will be good for building at least one new star, but...come on, guys. Seriously, find some new material already. Meanwhile, Shawn Michaels opened the show and was confronted by Randy Orton, which went nowhere. Bryan wound up facing Alberto Del Rio until Randy Orton invaded the Bellas locker room and threatened...harm...on them...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!

We had a Beat the Clock Challenge between Punk and Ryback for who gets to pick the stipulation of their match. Ryback faced R-Truth, who at least introduced a new wrinkle to this concept by purposely stalling, just to be a dick. I loved that. But we get the same ending to this thing that we always do, with the babyface winning with only seconds left on the clock. WHAT A COINCIDENCE! Punk picks a handicap match against Ryback and Heyman in the Cell, which would have been a lot more dramatic if this PPV wasn't called Hell in a Cell. Ok, enough already. Time to blow this off. This is not the time to be cute and have Heyman get another pin. This feud is long past its expiration date and it's time to wrap it up.

The rest of the first two and a half hours were boring and forgettable. You missed nothing. Moving along...

The last half-hour almost made up for that two and half hours of dreck with a phenomenal main event! The Rhodes Boys brought the goods again. You've gotta love how Dustin just turns on the jets for these high-profile matches. The Shield took advantage of Hunter's No DQ stipulation and eventually turned it into a 3-on-2 until the fired Big Show made the save from the crowd (No, he didn't get entrance music this time) and destroyed the Shield, leading to the Rhodes boys getting the pin and the titles. This got a huge pop and it was probably one of the coolest Raw moments of the year. Great stuff! Show ends with Hunter looking angry at #1 babyface Big Show. Well, you can't win 'em all, I guess.

By all means, skip this entire show, except for the main event, which you can probably catch on Hulu or something.

I fee like you want exceptional, unforgettable stuff every week otherwise you deem it "dreck". The Michaels opener was fine. The Bryan/Del Rio match was very, very good, and the Orton attack afterwards was spot-on heelery. The Punk/Heyman stuff actually moved things forward as opposed to just being them sniping at each other. Was it a classic Raw prior to the main event? Nah. But it was by and large booked well, did a good job of setting up all the pieces for Hell In A Cell, and wasn't boring. And yeah, the main event was a strong TV match of the year contender.

The last half hour was really great. Cole really blew the call when Cody got power bombed into the barrier, using that moment to reset the show instead of selling the murder that just happened. Did Big Show's punch on Reigns whiff?

The rest of the show I just flipped to. I didn't feel like I was missing out on anything.

Bryan/ADR really was an exceptional match, right up until the sports entertainment finish - but really, there was no good way to do a clean pinfall in that scenario, so I'm more or less okay with that. The main event was every bit as good as people are saying, but I wonder if we're not going to get a Dusty finish next week to put the belts back on the SHIELD. Everything else was fine. Forward momentum was maintained, nothing was particularly boring (although most of it wasn't particularly exciting, either), and the show worked out being satisfying overall. If they'd run a show like this just a few years ago, it could have easily been the best RAW of that year.

There's no Dusty Finish HHH can pull to undo the tag title match without it being utterly transparent bullshit. It was a no-DQ match, and Ambrose spent the whole bout interfering. He could order a rematch and screw them that way, but he's not going to just yank the titles off of them.

Anyone else catch Lawler's minor screw up in the main event? When Dustin brought in a chair and starting walloping The Shield, he tried to compare it to Sunday night's grand slam in the playoffs. Except he said "That swing looked just like TITO Ortiz!" Doh! Way to make it look like you're up on the world of sports!

I flipped through a lot of the event with a compelling MNF game going on, but I was absolutely glued to the ADR/Bryan match and the main event. Del Rio is a consistently great in-ring performer, and Orton's heelery was a good way to make sure no one *really* lost that match. The main event was phenomenal and was rightfully awarded with a "this is awesome" chant.

It seemed to me that the crowd really wants to cheer for AJ but can't because she's evil and beats up on their favorite babyface's fiance. It wouldn't be a major issue if there wasn't such a huge gap in the talent levels of Brie and AJ, but AJ's just so incontestably better that it comes through every time they're on screen. (Also, Brie's "acting" during the backstage Orton beatdown was cringeworthy). I think Total Divas has handicapped them a little in terms of this storyline, because it seemed they were all set for a DB/AJ-reunite-and-take-on-the-world arc.

Are Stephanie and HHH officially "The Authority"? Seemed like JBL and Lawler were trying to get it over as a name during the main event. I want to take this moment and eat my words, as Stephanie has been phenomenal in her role. I've long criticized her as a horrible on-screen talent, but she's got the corporate bitch character down to a T. She's held her own in these segment, and she's even done some scene chewing, most notably the short backstage segment with Orton the Raw after Night of Champions and her appearance on MizTV.

Los Matadores are beginning to get on my nerves.

How long until Cesaro and Swagger dump Uncle Zeb and turn face? People are chanting "We The People" during the matches!

They need a new opponent. I'm fine with all of the gimmick, but this is a team that's begging to be put against Cesaro/Swagger.

I am thinking there is not much acting involved to pull off the corporate bitch, just dialing it up a notch for TV. She's always been good in her roles IMO, it's the amount of screen time she always gobbles up.

Well, they had the Zeb promo prior to the Americans match, so it would appear that is set to go. I too am tired of seeing Los Matadores vs 3MB for the third week in a row.

This underscores why we need local jobbers more often. If everyone in the WWE is a "superstar" yet a third of them are fodder for the main-eventers or new gimmicks, then the idea of "superstar" is diluted.

Ryback recently beat up a nobody. Get two of them for the Matadors to run through each week. THEN give them recognizable opponents. OR have 3MB initially cheat to win for a few weeks until those scrappy Matadors figure out how to win.

A great tag team title match where it's treated as the main event, you care about both teams, they all bust their asses and leave it all out there, the crowd is super into it, and the titles change hands is such a rare thing to see in modern day WWE. But when it's done right like last night, few things in wrestling are quite as pleasurable to watch. Congrats to the Rhodes brothers. Great feeling to mark out last night.

I thought the show was great, though that's crediting the main event and D-Bry/ADR which was also a great match up until the finish (which I understand).

HHHeeltastic is back.

LOADS of tag team action to boot. Brodus Clay might want to expand his offense a bit, and Cesaro looked winded postmatch with the Giant Swing after gutwrenching and Neutralizing Tons of Funk.

I liked the opening promo, especially Orton's work on the mike.

The issue with Los Matadores vs Real Americans is the Real Americans are getting face pops. They're building up the Giant Swing. Commentators are actively praising Cesaro as if he's a face.

It's entirely posisble they know this, and now know that the crowd will cheer more for the heels than their fresh new tag team.

The more I think about it, the more I like the explanation given last night. "I was trying to be nice, and you crapped all over me. Well you want a bad guy, you got one."

It kinda reminds me of the episode of The Simpsons where Moe tried to smile. What if the past month or so WAS the "good guy" version of HHH? That would actually be a somewhat unique wrinkle in the storyline.

I feared that taking the belts off the Shield would lead to the IWC revolting all over it. Yet, the WWE has done a great job with the entire Rhodes saga that the crowd popped big time. I do think HHH would rip the titles off the Rhodes Family, because well its HHH. The Hell in Cell rematch should be amazing until it goes back to the Shield. Yeah, Bryan is getting superkicked in a few weeks.

Wish I'd caught this main event! Unfortunately I was too busy watching my Colts lose to the Chargers. Gah.

TITLE CHANGE STATISTICS

WWE Tag Team Championship
New Champions: Cody Rhodes and Goldust
Previous Champions: The Shield (Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns)
2013 Title Changes: Second

This is Cody Rhodes and Goldust's first combined reign as WWE Tag Team Champions, or with any other tag-team title.

For Cody, this is his fifth overall tag-team championship in WWE. He won the World Tag Team Championship once with Hardcore Holly and twice with Ted DiBiase; his previous WWE Tag Team Championship reign was with Drew McIntyre. (Note that WWE officially considers its current tag-team title to be a continuation of the SmackDown title initially won by Kurt Angle and Chris Benoit, and therefore the current championship is not the original tag-team title-- though the two titles have been unified.)

Cody is also a two-time former Intercontinental Champion; thus he needs "only" to win either the WWE Title or World Heavyweight Title to become a Triple Crown Champion.

For Goldust, this is his second overall WWE tag-team championship, and seventh major tag-team championship in his career. This is his first WWE Tag Team Title reign; he also held the World Tag Team Championship with Booker T. Booker and Goldust's reign lasted from 12/15/02 to 1/6/03, and that was the most recent title reign for Goldust until now-- a period of almost 11 years.

Dustin Rhodes has also held the NWA World Tag Team Championship with Barry Windham, the WCW World Tag Team Title with Windham and Ricky Steamboat, the WCW World Six-Man Tag Team Title with Big Josh and Tom Zenk (which I've included in his tag-team title count), and the NWA Florida Tag Team Title with Mike Graham.

In addition, Dustin has held the WCW (now WWE) United States Championship twice, the WWF Intercontinental Title thrice, and the WWF Hardcore Championship nine times. He needs "only" a world heavyweight title reign to be officially recognized as a WWE Grand Slam Champion.

The Rhodes Brothers ended the 148-day reign of The Shield that started at Extreme Rules on 5/19/13 when Rollins and Reigns defeated Team Hell No in a Tornado Tag Team match.

Each of the last five WWE Tag Team Title reigns has lasted at least 106 days, with Team Hell No's reign lasting 245 days, from September to May. Paul London and Brian Kendrick's 331-day reign from May '06 to April '07, defeating MNM and losing to Deuce 'n Domino, still stands as the longest reign with this championship.

Finish should've been a Big Show punch into the CrossRhodes but it was an awesome match and an awesome moment. Supposedly the PPV match is now Rhodes vs. Usos vs. Shield. Long-term they're building to the Cody/Goldust match at Wrestlemania.

Daniel Bryan is about to get the WWE title and is wrestling a heel who needs to be built up as JOHN CENA's opponent and they still wouldn't beat him by roll-up. I think that bodes well for him.

Is that because the Smackdown team (Colons) beat the Raw team (Miz & Morrison) in the unification? I think that means the WWF title history was wiped out by Jericho in December 2001. LONG LIVE THE WCW TITLE.

Good show imo.
Bryan vs del Rio was a hard battle and I loved it.
Cesaro got a decent pop when he stared at the legs of Tensai and then the crowd booed when Clay tried to stop it.

Him lifting (was it) Tensai then flipping him was awesome.
The guy is a beast and the crowd is starting to react to that.

Rhodes brothers vs Shield was great too.
Awesome moment and the crowd was into it.
Good for striking the iron when it's hot but it could also mean that the only way is down for the two brothers.

I will say that all my good feelings are contingent on them not getting cute with the Bryan/Orton match and having Bryan finally winning the belt, no take-backsies. I think that's what they'll do, but until it's done I'm feeling cautious.
