Here's a fact no one else but me would remember. In 1991, the Ultimate Warrior lost the WWF Title to Sgt. Slaughter due to the interference of Macho King Randy Savage (who smashed Warrior's cranium with his scepter in one of the coolest looking things I've ever seen). Later, when Savage was in the Rumble match itself he never showed up to actually enter the ring due to having the Warrior come after him. As a result of this, once the two minute interval between Savage's placement (18) and the ninteenth entrant's passed (who was Animal of LOD), Savage's oppotunity for participation was voided. Gorilla Monsoon covered this by saying Savage had missed his chance. Oddly enough, in 2001 Steve Austin was ambushed by Triple H who he cost the WWF title earlier in the night (history repeating itself exactly 10 yrs later?) and even though Austin (27) was unable to enter before Billy Gunn at 28th on the list, he was still allowed to participate and went on to win the thing!

That, friends, was a miscarriage of justice!

Also, I believe in the '92 Rumble Savage eliminated himself but was allowed to come back in based on the premise he had to be eliminated under someone else's power. Was Mil Mascaras granted the same concession in 1997? HELL NO!

In the words of JR at Summerslam 2002: DAMN IT! DO YOU REALIZE WHAT YOU'VE DONE!?! YOU SON OF A BITCH!!

And, of course, this year Maven should have to be eliminated twice to make up for his bullshit "count-out" deal last year. Damn that Undertaker to Hell!

Maven WAS eliminated, by Undertaker. Granted, it happened after Taker had been eliminated himself, but there's plenty of precedent for people who have already been eliminated(or people who aren't even participants) eliminating competitors from battle royals.

    -Patrick

True that - in fact, Undertaker HIMSELF was the victim of such an elimination in 1993 when Giant Gonzales made his debut and tossed him. So I guess Taker's elimination by Maven shouldn't have counted, retroactively =)

This is true, but we're forgetting something. Our kind, benevolent Undisputed Champion (Chris Jericho) gave Maven a title shot out of the goodness of his heart, just to eliminate any doubts as to whether or not Maven could win the main event of WrestleMania. Y2J was victorious, and Maven's non-elimination was avenged. To throw in a factoid of my own, Chris Benoit is undefeated in Januray Pay-Per-View championship matches. Kurt Angle has never had a championship match at a January Pay-Per-View.

Except for that time he fought Triple H for the World title belt.

The WWF title match at Royal Rumble 01' was HHH vs. Angle. Angle was not only the champ but he also retained, only to lose the next month at No Way Out to the Rock.

Incorrect, and I'm shocked since you're a Jerichoholic, since Benoit lost the IC title to Jericho in a ladder match at RR '01.

OK, I forgot that. My bad.

That I did not forget. I was alluding to Benoit's undefeated January record in World Championship matches. The Rabid Wolverine is 1-0 in such contests, as he defeated (I think) Sid Vicious at whatever the WCW January PPV was in 2000 to win the big, gold belt.

Yet another factoid:

Since the "winner gets a WM title shot" rule was introduced as part of the Royal Rumble in 1993, the Royal Rumble winner is 6-3 at the advertised Wrestlemania main event. This includes co-winners Lex Luger (loss) and Bret Hart (win) getting separate shots at the title in 1994, but does not include Yokozuna's loss to Hulk Hogan in a post main-event match in 1993 (Yoko's win over Bret did count though). Obviously, Austin's 1997 victory and Vince McMahon's 1999 win aren't included, as neither one ended up in the Wrestlemania event in their respective years.

Edit: Added a little bit more detail to my post.

So, in essence, Vince winning the damn thing at #2 EQUALLED Shawn Michaels's feat of doing it as #1....

You know, I think you've got a point. Can we get Drew Carey in here to job to Triple H please? Or do we have to do a "Which way will he go?" story first?
