So sayeth Fox Sports' Jay Glazer and ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Wonder if Brett threw another backstage fit and Childress convinced the bosses to let him have his way.

Allegedly, Randy's been looking for a trade since week 1 (twitter.com).

When I first read this (Simmon's accidental tweet), I thought it was all speculation. Has Farve ever had a receiver of Randy Moss level talent? This could be interesting, but I still feel that the Vikings are more than one player away from contention.

If the trade goes through, is Jared Allen allowed to celebrate with his calf-rope dance?

I always thought that if not for the career-ending neck injury, Sterling Sharpe would be up there with Moss and the others.

I wonder if this got accelerated due to Moss not having a catch on Monday night. That broke his streak of having a catch in every game since '06 and I can't imagine he wouldn't be anything other than a prissy diva towards Belichek because of it (and the contract impasse as well).

Seconded. I thought Sharpe was awesome. Maybe didn't quite have the ridiculous size and speed combo of Moss but he was certainly looking HOF-worthy before he got injured.

Agreed, but if they manage to get Harvin, Rice, Moss and AP healthy and on the field at the same time that's a hell of a lot of talent for defences to worry about.

KFAN is now saying that the deal is 99% done.

-EDIT - They just said the deal is done.

Wonder if Chilly is going to pick him up at the airport in his Escalade?

So now who's the deep threat for the Patriots? Who's the guy that allows Welker to get open in the middle?

Who was the guy that did that in 2001? 2003? Or 2004?

(Yes, this is what I keep repeating to myself. Doesn't make it any less true, though.)

Branch the last 2 seasons. And, the defense was a tad bit better for the Patriots in '01,'03,'04. Wonder if this move would have been made if Brady hadn't already signed his extension.

So Brandon Tate has to become Deion Branch then? That works for me.

Anyway, because I looked it up.

In 2001, Troy Brown had 101 catches. David Patten had 51. Nobody else had more than 30. I would say if Troy could get 101 catches in that offense, than White Wes - Troy Brown 2.0 - can still get his catches. Antowain Smith ran for 1157 yards and the Pats scored 371 points.

In 2003, OMG I am getting fired up now.

Deion Branch - 58 catches
Kevin Faulk - 48 catches
Troy Brown 1.0 - 40 catches
Daniel Graham - 38 catches

And Antowain Smith and Kevin Faulk each ran for just over 600 yards, so that was clearly an uninteresting Pats offense, scoring 348 points, which was the lowest total of the three Super Bowl winning-teams.

In 2004, the Patriots added Corey Dillon, who ran for 1635 yards. #1 receiver? David Givens, with 56 catches. (David Givens?!) David Patten had 44 catches. Deion Branch had 35 catches (in only nine games). Daniel Graham had 30 catches, and Kevin Faulk and Patrick Pass each had over 25.

So now I'm ALL OVER THIS trade as being A-OK. White Wes and White Wes Jr. (Julian Edelman) along with Brandon Tate and Taylor Price are a comparable foursome to Branch, Patten, Givens, and Useless Fourth Receiver X. Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski are much more impressive weapons in the passing game than Daniel Graham. And TFB 2010 is better through age than TFB 2004.

Can BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Danny Woodhead get 1200 yards combined on the ground? Maybe. I'm suddenly not that concerned about the Patriots offense.

Judging from what I heard on the radio here in Massachusetts about this, it seems like the annual complain-o-fest from the Boston Sports Media is going to come early this year.

Both teams are going to rue this deal.

Say what you will about Moss, but he still demanded a double team every time out. How else did Wes Welker magically become the team's #1 receiver? Let's see how Welker does now that Revis can focus solely on him. Or now that other teams can start double-teaming HIM.

And Minnesota? This year's going to be bad enough if Favre continues on his INT pace, but if Minnesota really is stupid enough to sign Moss to an extension, they'll regret that move very quickly. Let's see how much Moss loves it there NEXT YEAR when Tavaris Jackson is either throwing boneheaded picks or throwing that deep touchdown pass to Sydney Rice (why yes, he is still on the team, why do you ask?). And don't even get me started on how much Moss will pine for the friendly confines of Foxboro when he has to follow the coaching "genius" of Brad Childress.

This trade's the closest we'll see to Mutually Assured Destruction between two powerhouse teams.

I'm going to repeat this, just because if I keep saying it maybe it will happen.

Troy Brown caught 101 passes in 2001. Same QB. Same coach. No Randy Moss. Nobody NEARLY as good as Randy Moss. I don't think White Wes will have a problem catching his 100 balls.

And, if the want to double-team Welker, fine, Welker Jr. can catch 75 balls.

The Patriots won three Super Bowls without a weapon the caliber of Randy Moss (but WITH TFB and Belichick.) The Patriots won ZERO Super Bowls with a weapon the caliber of Randy Moss. (Yeah, it should have been one Super Bowl but for David Tyree's helmet catch.) I LOVED Randy Moss as a Patriot, but this isn't a franchise-killer. It's not even a season killer.

If Randy Moss had blown out his ACL in the Miami game, and was lost for the season, not nearly as much hand-wringing would be happening.

Belichick stresses team over individual success. If Moss was having a fit over not catching a pass in a big divisional road win, then where is his head going to be in other games? The Pats have been more than accommodating to him and he just can't seem to return the favor unless he is getting his.

Losing him might suck and cost them a game or two, but it also might open up the offense for other guys. Brady forced the ball to Moss in the Jets loss (after Moss ill timed flare up after the Cincy win) and it got them nowhere.

No one seems to wonder why Moss just couldn't go with the flow? Now he can chase down wild passes and under thrown balls for the rest of the year.

The 2011 draft should be fun. Two first, second, third and fourth round picks.

While I think the offense will drop off a bit without him, I agree with JJD that they still have the tools to be a good offense. Unfortunately for the Pats trading Moss won't fix their defense.

Against Revis? I'm sure he'll throw plenty of balls towards Moss, but I can't see Favre getting any less than 3 INT's this Monday.
