First off, I don't remember where I saw this picture, but that truck is awesome and I would totally drive it around. I also wonder if they were just genuinely confused about on which date 9/11 happened when they had the paint job done.

Everybody here seems to know me well enough to not even try to get me interested in 9/11 anymore because I like to pretend that by completely ignoring it - well, not completely ignoring it, but keeping it to myself and not participating in any of these Godawful anniversaries which really, really seem shallow and always promotional of anything EXCEPT the stuff that matters. It's not like we're not reminded of 9/11 every time we go to the airport or get eyeballed at the mall.

When I started doing daily banners for the site, clearly I still felt it was important enough to mark the anniversary, but to try to do it in a subtle way.

I have no idea what I was thinking here. I must have thought it looked really cool the previous year.

You could tell I was kinda over it by the 2009 banner, when I went for the hip Internet jokey reference.

And by last year, I was just trolling - but everyone was either not into taking the bait, or too afraid to say anything - except for one brave man (The W).

I can only hope that yesterday's banner serves as proof that I haven't let the terrorists win by placing the focus where it REALLY belonged - on FOOTBALL.

I really hope that now that we've had the super giant tenth anniversary, we can now start getting to the point where talking about "9/11" ends up one of those things that Brian Williams just casually mentions during the last 15 seconds of the 9/11 newscast - kinda like they now do for Katrina (which may or may not even deserve that kinda attention, but that's another post I'll probably never make).

As for me, I'll continue to try to treat 9/11 just like any other day. (...except for starting threads about it to try to convince you how I'm treating 9/11 just like any other day, of course. Damn it all!)

I agree pretty much with everything you said, except I wouldn't drive the truck around and I still think that the two spotlights in the New York skyline is a cool visual.
