We're off on a trip to May of 1999, and a card at Arena Mexico with lots of big names. The date I have on it is May 22, 1999.

1. Olimpico, Negro Casas & Tarzan Boy vs. Vilano 3, Fuerza Guerrera & Olimpico

When guys like Negro, V-3 and Fuerza are in the curtain jerker, you know it is a big broadcast. The valets are incredibly hot here. Now that's how to use eye candy.

First fall is the rudo beatdown segment, with the focus on the short-lived program with Negro Casas & Zumbido. A moonsault from Zumbido ends the first one. As per usual, the rudo 3-on-1 assault continues to start the next fall, until Negro starts a comeback by kicking the hell out of Zumbido. Olimpico WOW-catapults Vilano 3 through the ropes. Negro ain't afraid to paste the living hell out of someone. Zumbido tries a moonsault again as he mounts his comeback, but it misses, and he gets Magistral-ed for 3. The third fall is highlighted by Zumbido taking one hell of a Jerry bump to the floor, and an interesting elimination as Fuerza appears to be delivering a running Liger bomb to Tarzan, but stops part way and flapjacks him instead. Olimpico gets pinned after a top rope senton from V-3, and that's a rudo win.

73. Zumbido was great here, hanging with the fired up Negro, but the other folks can do much better.

2. Tzuki & Ultimo Dragoncito vs. Espectrito & Fierita

Tzuki = Max Mini. Espectrito = Mini Vader. Fierita looks like he should be Felina's mini, but he's named after La Fiera. You can hopefully figure out who Dragoncito is the mini for.

This just gets one fall, but first, we have a ceremony as Rayo de Jalisco (w/ neck brace) comes to a ringside seat. Fierita takes the first crazy bump, getting monkey flipped onto the ramp, and falling off right on his head. Dragoncito then Victory Rolls Fierito from the ramp. The highlight of Tzuki's exchange is an Asai moonsault to the floor. Shouldn't Dragoncito do that? Rudos take over with dickish brawling, but when the tecnicos take back over, Ultimo gives Fierita a somesault tope to the floor that sees Ultimo land perfectly, standing on one of the ringside seats. A Magisral in the ring later on Espectrito, the tecnicos win the match. Universo 2000 comes out after the match to threaten Rayo.

Deserved 3 falls, but the EMLL minis have never really got much TV time. What TV they get is usally quite good, and this was no exception, it's just that you're craving for more. 79.

3. Ultimo Guerrero vs. Gran Sasuke (NWA Middleweight Championship - Ultimo is challenging)

This was set up by an elimnation Cibernetico match the week prior. This was about a year before Ultimo made the move into the elite worker category up from just being good. Ultimo Dragon accompanies Sasuke to the ring, but Atlantis acts as Sasuke's second, with Vilano 3 for Ultimo.

They clip the mat segment, and we end up at the point where a leg lariat sends out Ultimo, and Sasuke Asai moonsaults the rudo. Back in the ring, he goes up one fall after German suplexing Guerrero. The second fall (or whatever airs) starts with Ultimo kicking Sasuke's knee out. Later, as he tries to run the ropes, Vilano 3 trips Sasuke, and as the seconds argue, both are sent to the back by Ray Mendoza. When that ends, Ultimo quickly takes control with a dropkick. He fakes a dive to the floor. Sasuke returns to the ring, and Ultimo takes over Sasuke with an interesting armdrag variant. 2 counts off both a belly-to-back and an electric chair, but a fisherman buster evens the falls.

Hopefully, this third fall will remain unedited. Sasuke starts off with a series of chops and kicks until Ultimo catches one and is taken down. Sasuke dropkicks a kneeling Sasuke outside, befrore hammering him into the seats with a tope. Well, there's a clip, right up to a Sasuke tope con hilo. Sasuke returns to the ring with a rana off the middle ropes, but Ultimo gets up the shoulder at 2.5. Sasuke to the top, but Ultimo catches him, but then Sasuke turns it into a sunset flip for a near fall. The second trip up the ropes is more successful for Ultimo, as he sets up Sasuke, but can only earn 2 with a reverse superplex. Ultimo heads up, but his somesault off the top misses. Sauke's hits, and that's all she wrote.

Really good match, but the clips to the points only showing the highspots hurt it, along with the Vilano/Atlantis fight. 87.

Los Hermanos Dinamitas present a wreath to Jalisco, signifying the death of his career. If only.

4. Los Hermanos Dinamitas vs. Atlantis, Tinieblas Jr & Tinieblas Sr (w/ Alushe)

Oh boy. Alushe looks like an Ewok and walks like he's constipated. As horrid as can be expected. Alushe splashes the brothers when they are in the Star, eventually getting to a submission. Apolo Dantes shows up and brawls to the back with Atlantis. As Atlantis goes through the curtain, Kurrgan (Yes, that Kurrgan) shows up and attacks Atlantis. Rudos get DQ'd. To say this was a mess would be a compliment. Atlantis does the stretcher job. 40.

5. Satanico vs. Brazo de Oro (Hair vs. Hair)

Oro attacks the rudo as he hits the ring, but Satanico quickly takes him down and stomps the mudhole in. Satanico shoves the referee away in the process, and is suddenly one fall away from the free haircut. Oro moves in for the kill to start the second fall. Avalanche and a splash, but that just gets 2. Oro goes off the ropes again, but Satanico blocks a clothesline, and rolls up Brazo to even things up. The third fall starts off with a sunset flip getting two on Satanico. Oro also nets two off a bridge and a small package. Brazo then goes for a figure-4 leglock. No submission. Oro barrels over Satanico with a pair of clothesline, but he, as Gorilla Monsoon would say, goes to the well once to often, and gets caught. Satanico slaps on a submission, and it is time for the barber to visit.

We don't see the clipping, as we have to get to a soccer game though. I'm sounding very broken-recordish, but what could have been a peppy little match in full, was hurt by the constant clips. 74.

Highspots tape is part of the Best of 99 series, and the whole show is on the wrestleholics tape. I'd get the latter if you want to see Sasuke/Ultimo. The clips hurt a lot of the matches, but that's EMLL for you. Sasuke/Guerrero is recommended though for spotfest fans.
