http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/12/05/nationals-close-to-deal-with-free-agent-jayson-werth/ It's updated at the bottom. 7 Years 127 mil for a 32 year old Ofer. Sheer lunacy. Carl Crawford must be doing the dance of joy.

So now a bunch of mediocre outfielders are suddenly going to start demanding "Jayson Werth money". Thank you to the Nationals for ruining it for everybody.

The Nats front office is set on being the worst front office in town, I guess.

They could've spent that money on keeping Adam Dunn around and signing Cliff Lee.

In a way I can't blame the Nationals, since the only way they'll get big-name free agents to come to Washington is to overpay. They certainly can't attract them based on the franchise's long history of winning.

That said, $18 million a year for Werth is nuts.

But at least he didn't sign with the Yankees, huh? Am I right? :-)

Congrats to J-Dub. He's earned the right to cripple a baseball franchise.

I don't understand how this can still happen.

DC now has one of the worst contracts in all three major sports.

They may have trouble attracting people, but they could've kept Dunn for less money and less years, and use that leftovers to fill one of their 20 other holes.
