Well...he certainly is a popular figure in Miami history. But he's got zero coaching experience to go on.
Randy Shannon is the other candidate we know about, but I would think it wouldn't be the best move to use someone who's already been on the staff even if the defense has been good under him. They need a change, not more of the same.

It's not so much them considering Kosar a serious and viable candidate (yet) so much as him going to the papers and saying "I'm available!".
Assuming they could keep Shannon or bring in a quality DC to replace him if he feels the need to leave, I was completely on board with the Mike Leach rumors that were running around yesterday. That could be fun, which is something that UM football hasn't been in a few years.
The dangerous thing about the Bernie Kosar story is that being that he's on the UM board of trustees, he's the candidate with the least amount of experience with the most amount of influence with the higher-ups. And though I will always love Bernie Kosar for 1983, that doesn't mean I think he should be the next coach of Miami.
