What the fuck is this shit? IWC? Yeah, I know what it stands for, but who thought this one up? I now see it popping up in threads and columns. Now when someone busts out a great flame or a ***** star point in a thread or column are we suppossed to start chanting I-W-C-I-W-C...! Who pioneered this anyway? Can I jump to the IWF? Why did *we* have to start this. We really are gay aren't we?

I dunno, man.
That's like asking who thought up the wheel!
That's not a question, but you should probably avoid chanting for anything you see on the internet.
You asked that already!
No.
WE didn't - only the people silly enough to lump everything into a group did blah blah blah blah
Sadly, yes.

To answer your questions further:
IWC - anagram for Internet Wrestling Community made up by marks and wrestling geeks and Net geeks.
Who thought it up? Scott Keith will probably lay claim to it, though John D. Williams may dispute that claim. No word from Jeff Amdur about any claim he might make for it...
Are we supposed to chant? Well, perhaps we should change it to Internet Community of Wrestling, so we could chant, "I-C-W!! I-C-W!!" It just rolls off the tongue better, you know? But for now, a "He's hardcore!" chant might be appropriate. But whatever you chant at the privacy of your own Net connection...
Who pioneered this? Asked and answered.
Can I jump to the IWF? Your contract with the IWC has a no-compete clause. So you're stuck for about another 14 months before you can make the jump.
Why did we have to start this? Ummmm... marks, wrestling geeks and Net geeks... what groups out there are more qualified to start it than us?
We really are gay? We're geeks, freaks, and some of us may be rednecks. I'll leave the guesswork on sexual orientation and homophobia to others, heh heh heh... ;)

Ah, that clears things up a bit. Upon further review I probably should have posted this in the ole Site Bashing folder.

I'm all for taking whoever did come up with "IWC", much like "smark," and shooting them in the street like dogs.

I dont have a problem with either term. If those pretty widely-used terms hadnt been introduced, I think we would've made up our own names to call those things by now anyway.

It's kind of a bulky pretentious term, but it's a hell of a lot easier to type than "people who enjoying reading about and discussing professional wrestling on the Internet".

Whatever happened to "smarts"?

Wouldn't "people of the IWC" and "smart fans" be synonymous in this day and age?

I don't think that's necessarily so. "Smarts" know about the inner workings of the wrestling business. The "IWC" is more about the exchange of opinions and ideas. So, the "IWC" is made up of "smarts", but not all "smarts" are a part of the IWC.

As for the term itself, I don't have any problem with it. It's just net shorthand. As OlFuzzyBastard said:

However I don't think it's pretentious. It's not like anyone wears it as a badge of honor.
