What's the deal with the batteries on that? I know you can recharge them, but when they finally die after three years or so, how are you supposed to go about changing them? (Can you go about changing them?)

Compared to the normal GBA, the same peripherals (GCN link cable, E-Reader,etc.) can still attach across the top, right?

Any comparison to a GBA with an Afterburner? I'd been considering trying to put one one, but heard a lot of nightmare stories.

Considering the low"ish" price of the SP...I'm considering ditching the idea altogether. Any advice?

I'll consider it if I can get some kinda trade-in on my old one.

$160's a little steep for a portable game console, and besides--I'm kinda miffed they didn't fix this problem BEFOREHAND.

But hell, I gotta get through the Phantasy Star Collection and I'd like to do so without losing my eyesight completely. Damn addictive old-school RPGs. . .

I've played on a GBA SP and an Afterburner. The GBA SP has a much clearer image and is much better all around, the new shape and the rechargeable battery make it even better. I definately recommend the GBA SP over the Afterburner..

EB let me trade in my old GBA for a $40 credit. With the $20 I put down as a deposit the price I paid yesterday was a low $45 (including tax).

This far I have enjoyed it, it plays all my old Gameboy color and GBA games, it seems to have all the same peripherals (GCN link cable, E-Reader,etc.).

I never got a straight answer on the battery question from the salesman. But, I figure the battery should last up to three years and by then a new upgraded gameboy will have taken over the market.

The shoulder buttons are the hardest to get used to, as I had become very comfortable with the wider placement. But I'm sure I will adadpt soon eneough.

Wow, this thing is awesome. Metroid looks great... there are things in the background that I've never seen before. A shame they couldn't have gotten it right the first time.

My only complaint is that old Gameboy cartridges still protrude from the system when you're playing them. Does that annoy anybody else?

Otherwise, the system is badass. They really did their homework.

I figure they'll sell replacement batteries... they know their lifespan.

And as soon as I can spare the $100, it's MINE.

Batteries last about 400-450 full charges. Then it's a minor unscrewing job and you have to post the old battery off to Ninty to get a new one. I reckon a lot of Third Parties will be developing new batteries but would you wanna use them?

Depends on who the 3rd Party is. InterAct is well known and has some very good products out there. I wouldn't be suprised if they actually make one.

I'm quite content with my old GBA with the GlowGuard, although the new one does look very slick.

Isn't the glare back off the screen a little harsh with a mounted light tho? Thats the main advantage on the SP, it's front lit, meaning good visability and no washed out/Glare side effects.

I don't notice to be too much of a problem, but that's me though. There was a small amount of glare, but not too bad. It's easily the best light on the market, plus it helps protect the screen.

Good point about the headphone jack, I never actually used mine on my old GBA so it doesn't bother me. But it still seems like a no-brainer...

Ok, so by making it smaller and having a rechargable battery so that I can take it wherever I'd like and not worry about batteries, they've made it easier for me to carry around, BUT for the convenience of actually being able to hear the game that I'm playing without being annoying to everyone around me, I have to pay extra?

Again, I say, I'll buy one when they come out with one with a headphone jack. My old GBA works fine, and at least I'm not bothering the rest of my roomates when I want to pump up the mad Tetris jamz, you know?

Wow, I've never used the headphones. I had no idea they were so important.

Then again, when playing any kind of video game, I usually mute it and put on a CD.

I'd be more concerned about the lack of a headphone jack if the extra peripheral were more than five bucks. I've got no problem dropping an extra five down.

Now, if they screw up and undersell it so that you can't get it... well, then you'll hear some howlin' from the Midwest when I finally get around to picking one up. (:

I got mine today and man it's about a 98% improvement over the first. That backlight is a godsend. Kinda strange that the shoulder buttons are ultra-tiny all of a sudden, but it's a minor quibble, as is the headphone jack (for me, because I never it all that often)

It's not the best handheld system ever (*sob* I miss you, Neo Geo Pocket) but it's close enough.
