Reposted on: 17.1.13 2108.45 | Wow. Kinda surprised here, as they've held on to Big Bad John for a long time, shifting him around to different gimmicks and such. He spent a long time in OVW as well (back when he was Big Bad John here ... and was never that great here either, come to think of it).
I figured he was a lock as one of those WWE guys who would always manage to slip past the radar when it came to being released.

I've heard of the 10 year contract, but if it ain't working, there are other avenues to look at, just paying them to sit at home, buyouts etc. Regardless, Heidenreich is gone, and that isn't a bad thing. Now as much as I love the Road Warriors, I believe Animal needs to go as well. I guess he goes back into semi-retirement on whatever WWE Legends contract he's got.
This is rather sloppy; if they're going to fire Heidenreich they should either have done a storyline that broke up the LOD or a storyline that also puts Animal on the shelf. The way they fired Faarooq wasn't much better, but at least it facilitated Bradshaw's transition to a heel singles run by having him not care about the on-screen version of his partner's termination.

The gist of it was Heidenreich got burned out on travel - if the normal WWE schedule was tough, I can't imagine how bad it would be for a person who lost their home in Katrina, as Heidenreich did - and just refused to travel to shows anymore. It sounds like they had no choice but to let him go.
According to PWI, the current plans are to push Animal as a single, and he's also listed as teaming with Matt Hardy on upcoming cards in Japan. (On last week's Velocity, he helped the Mexicools beat the Dicks, and then turned on the Dicks, and I don't know how that would play into this, if it even would.)

It should also be noted that the contract was for 10 million dollars.
As for Heidenreich, once LOD 5000 ran its course (months before WWE realized it had), where else was there for him to go? Certainly not another attempted main-event push. | Mr. Boffo

Mark Henry's contract was previously reworked. You can do that when you're the only real game in town.

You have to admit it was better than LOD 2000 featuring suicidal Hawk being replaced by Droz.
I always thought Heidenreich was servicable enough if he had a gimmick that could be focused on instead of his ringwork.

Remember, he was brought in as a hired thug in the last days of WCW. His return was the planned climax to the match wherein Sid so infamously broke his leg. After this, Animal had some terrific squashes against cruiserwight teams.
I don't have any great memories of Heidenreich, and we didn't give him a big welcome when he hurt Stevie in an early TV match. But his burnout might be a temporary problem, and the WWE could bring him back just as they are other former SD guys. | LanceJr

Seriously...This was a log time coming. It's nice to see WWE "trimming" the fat if you will on stiff untalented guys. So now when this hopefully final Mark Henry run is over they get to finally say "nice to see ya go you fat piece of crap. Worlds Strongest Man my left eye. Regardless of maybe nto being a fault, you have to think management isn;t too happy about losing Batista. Henry almost dropped him on SD! 2 weeks ago lifting him, and I also before last weekend he also fucked up a few moves at house show.
