I can't believe he didn't book himself as the TV champ.

Damn, you beat me to the Team Challenge joke (but wasn't that Bisch's idea?)

I do think it's telling that they shuffle their OVW booking team a lot more than their 'main' creative teams.

Who's the next out of touch old timer they'll give the book too? I say bring back Ole. He'll get those kids in shape.

How has OVW been lately? Never seen any eps myself, but I know Heyman's shows got good reviews...

With the induction of Verne into the HoF & the hiring of Greg, didn't WWE get the AWA library out of the whole deal?

I thought they already had the AWA library and merely hired Greg as a good-will gesture.

Mike Bucci supposedly taking over might be a good step for him career wise. He was always a passable worker, but not big enough to make his offense look great. If he can pass that off onto the newer, younger guys, it might be pretty good.

I only have one Greg Gagne match (Greg, Scott Hall and Leon White vs. Larry Zybisco and some azns) on tape and bah gawd did he suck...the worst part was he wrestled the first 6 or 7 minutes of the match with all kinds of baby face spots, including larry z begging off! (Vader should have gotten that spot)

Not suprised the Almight Heat Machine got the boot. His booking, after Dad mostly gave it up in the mid-late 80s was spotty and the word was that he never came up with innovative stuff. Of course, the fact that his Daddy couldn't afford to pay the talent WWF money was an issue.

But I can't figure out how he could be part of the booking this long without us seeing Jumping Jim Brunzell. Brunzell and The Almighty Heat Machine couldn't be much worse (even at their ages) than Eugene and Duggan.

The television show is currently moving away from the summer's orientation around the live Six Flag series, which means the show has been in a type of holding pattern for most of the summer. (Check out the early Heyman shows and you'll see that it was really into September before he could begin to move away from setting up those live shows every two weeks.) Saying that, it's hard to say how much Gagne had a hand in before being let go.

The only new character that popped up while he was here was that of Jacob Duncan - alias Tytus, alias Tryton of TNA - a character that talked like Billy Bob Thorton in Sling Blade and wore a leather mask and lived out in the woods; talking about his mama and how he had a storm brewing in him or some such. They played videos of him for weeks and had him tear through some of the roster before being slammed through a table by Boogeyman and having his mask removed. As of last night's television recording for OVW, the character is back to at least looking like Tytus and wearing regular wrester gear and no mask.

So my guess is that Gagne may have had a hand in that one. Or, at least coincidentally they would drop the character just as he was shown the door. If the reports online are to be believed, Al Snow and Danny Davis were having to work with him to book the shows anyway, as Gagne knew nothing of the product, so WWE may have just looked at everything and asked, "why are we paying you?"

As for a comparison of OVW right now with OVW of the past, I think it's doing pretty well. Chett the Jett is turning out to be a decent holder of the Championship belt, and the women's division is becoming pretty interesting. It may not be up the level of Heyman's or Cornette's best stuff here, but it's certainly watchable and keeps you coming back.

Larry was one of the masters of the stall. And, if this match is from the 1986 time frame, Leon 'Baby Bull' White was around the level of Earthquake Ferris on the AWA Food Chain.
As for his firing: It has to be jealousy. Either that or they finished the interviews with him and Verne for the AWA DVD.

How well was the character getting over? Because that one sounded BADASS. Kind of a nouveau Waylon Mercy, yes?

I would say that the character was getting over pretty well, and the audience would be heavily cheering him when he appeared. His opponents in his build-up matches did a good job in allowing themselves to be thrown around like ragdolls (I recall one was spun in the air by his ears at one point), which helped. Throwing Boogeyman through a door during one show was a great moment as well.

When Boogeyman took the mask off, they made sure not to show Jacob's face, so I would have assumed then that they planned to carry on with the mask and a possible feud with Boogeyman. That seemed to be the end of it, however.
