Gamestop Buys EB Games(Gamespot.com)

According to the deal, all EB Games locations will change their names to GAMESTOP in 2006.

I haven't used Gamestop before, but I know that the EB Games stores I've visited are always well stocked, and offer a good selection of games, and the occasional hidden gem, as well.

I'm seeing a lot of closings coming up for somebody. We have both EB Games and Gamestops right next to each other in shopping centers and malls around here, so it doesn't make much sense to keep both open, does it?

I've always found Gamestop to have more used stuff, and more older systems, as well. Of course, with no competition, I'm a little worried, because my competing stores would often battle over who gave the best pre-order stuff (T-shirts, posters, etc.) and who had the best used prices.

Same thing here. We've actually got one of each in the mall (EB and former Bababges) and just outside the mall is another Gamestop (formerly Funcoland).

I'm more interested in the stores for the used stock, since you can usually find the new games all over the place.

Outside of the times EB has tried to sell off used games as new to me, I've preferred EB. Their selection of new/used is just as good, and they definitely have better deals and promotions. The only thing I've noticed that Gamestop usually has more of is stuff for older systems - and that usually just consists of a few rows of Genesis/Super NES games sitting in a bin with no box and no instructions.

The Philadelphia area is _done_ as far as gaming goes once this is implemented. This is EB's home base, and we're already loaded down with GameStops that used to be FuncoLands. The bigger EBs that serve as clearance outlets will probably go, and having two different chains with used games at different prices will be a thing of the past.

Crap.

I have some good experiences through EB Games; I always head there for older PSone games...they're often well priced, unless they're made by Square, then they tend to charge too much.

I've never been to a Gamestop, as there aren't any here in Canada. Is this takeover going to be a good thing, or a bad thing?

This sucks. EB has always been the better place to shop in my opinion. I hope at least that they keep the EBgames location in the mall and close the old gamestop.
