Then, suddenly, a friend of mine pointed me toward the Apex AD-1500, which is less expensive, but I don't know nearly as much about it. Where'd you get your Sampo, and how much did it run you? I found them available at the www.area450.com store for $109 plus S/H.
P.S. If Guru's reading, could you tell me why you reccomended the Sampo? | Guru Zim

I didn't want to have to trade him my Apex AD-600 with the "You should not be here" menu, so I had to find one comparable so that we could get Region 2 discs and watch them...
Check Ebay for the Sampo. Ebay will no longer list the AD-600 due to the fact that macrovision can be turned off on it, but they WILL sell the Sampo that can be modified with the same feature. If you need this feature, look for "VCR friendly" in the ad...
Last time I checked ebay, there were about 3 selling with macrovision / region free options for $179.

On the Sampo, the trick is the macrovision disabling from what I hear, not the region code. I dunno. I don't have one to play with.
//edit: Geeze, I should have researched this more. Sorry Chris, I guess you overpayed a little. Eh. Don't upgrade your firmware, btw  It looks like the one you bought has an unsupported firmware.
