It's been what seems like years of wooing and flirtation, but today the Red Sox look as if they have finally landed Adrean Gonzalez from the Padres Click Here (sports.espn.go.com).

I feel bad for Padre fans, the team really should have seen if they could have done anything this year since they had such a good run last year.

It's great for the Red Sox. Gonzalez fits better than Crawford and Werth with the current team.

We keep hearing about possible NBA and NFL lockouts, but it's still baseball that can't seem to level the playing field. I guess as long as the Yankees and Red Sox are monsters baseball is going to be happy.

Red Sox likely still signs Werth. Padres from what I've read got an excellent return http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/joe_lemire/12/04/gonzalez.trade.ap/index.html I know prospects could always bust but they got three top prospects for a guy that's a goner in a year. The Padres will likely trade Bell too. This will likely work out better than The McGriff for prospects trade did for them in 1993.

Gonzalez is going to be a big-time MVP candidate next year. This guy put up big numbers in the hitters' graveyard of Petco, so he's going to just kill it in Fenway. Great trade for Boston, and depressing, since it's another case of the rich getting richer. Hopefully at least the prospects headed to San Diego are good --- Hoyer should know them well, he's a former Boston guy.

Always have a concern about a player going from a laid back environment into the northeast corridor.
Now Tampa, I'll feel sorry for somewhat as they raised payroll somewhat the past few years to compete but will lose players. The Padres I have no sympathy for, as they had a payroll only higher than the Pirates and have or are trying to dump any player who makes any sort of money.

I think that gets a bit overstated. Granted you had Renteria fail here but you also had guys who came from arguable "laid-back environments" like Beckett, Lowell, Ortiz, Pedro, and many others who played well here.

As for A-Gon, I love the trade but I still wonder why they still couldn't have re-signed Victor Martinez. 4 years/$50M is a very reasonable deal for him.

Not if they don't think he's worth it. He'd have to stay behind the plate all four years, and the Boston front office figured he'd only catch regularly for two years at best.

John Heyman is reporting that the deal fell through. Gonzalez wanted 8 years, Sox only want to go to 6.

Well now that Jason Werth got a 7 year deal , Gonzalez's demands don't see so crazy. Boy are The Nationals dumb.

And now Heyman reversed his position and says Gonzalez has signed with the Sox.

Would you mind sharing any possible logic that makes a case that the trio of Anthony Rizzo, Casey Kelly, and Reymond Fuentes is going to "work out better" than Roberto Alomar and Joe Carter?

Simple. He's not talking about the Alomar and Carter deal from 1990. He's talking about the McGriff for Vince Moore, Donnie Elliott and Melvin Nieves from 1993.

Well now...THAT is damn sure logical!
