    Barry Bonds' ex-girlfriend told a grand jury in San Francisco last week the Giants outfielder confided to her in 2000 that be began using steroids, two sources told the San Francisco Chronicle for Sunday's editions.

    Kimberly Bell, 35, was subpoenaed by the prosecutors in the BALCO case and testified for about two hours with full immunity from prosecution, her attorney told The Chronicle.

    "It's clear from the subpoena that they are looking at Barry Bonds and the possibility he may have given untruthful testimony to the grand jury," Hugh Levine, Bell's attorney, told The Chronicle.

I thought I would put this here instead of opening another Bonds thread, but it appears that he could be out for the whole season. (sports.espn.go.com)

If a guy is on the DL, can he still be tested for steroids?

I've said it before, but will not say it again: If Bonds sits the season out, it's because he wants to, because he's tired of baby girls with notepads hounding him about how big his socks are now as compared to 1988 or ESPN putting Pedro Gomez as his shadow or whatever else. I can't say as though I would blame him. Spotlight is one thing, but this is getting stupid.

I would assume so, he is still in the union, still employed by major league baseball, still getting paid, so I would assume he is eligible for testing.

At this point, Pedro Gomez is to Barry Bonds as Jim Gray is to Kobe Bryant.
Barry better hope though that the money he used from memorabilia shows to buy his mistress a house was reported income, or else the IRS will come flying down on him. They took down Capone, they took down Rose, so Bonds better be careful. Perjury is one thing, the IRS is a deeper level of hell.

Olbermann (msnbc.msn.com) seems to think that Bonds would not be eligible for testing if he's on the DL.
